I'm trying to find my ggggrandfather John Foley and his wife Ellen Cavanaugh, circa 1800-1830.
I've searched many parish registers in many counties with many John Foley's but never with an Ellen Cavanagh. Castlecomer parish had a John Foley and Eleanor/Nelly Kavanagh. Two sons were baptized in 1813 and 1815 and of course, no records between 1818-28. My gggrandfather Edward was born between 1822-30. After emigrating to Pennsylvania in the late 1840's, I believe he was living in Schuykill Haven, PA in 1850(U.S. Census) and was supposedly 28 years old. He filed papers to become a citizen in 1852. He moved to LaSalle, IL and married a widow, (Elizabeth Malone Farrell). In the 1860 census, both he and Elizabeth were supposedly 30 years old, thus the age range. He was listed as a miner in both the 1850 and 1860 census. It could be that he just took what job was available in Pennsylvania and continued that work when he moved to Illinois or possibly had been a miner in Ireland.
If there are any Foley's that have a John and Ellen in their ancestors and the timeframe works, I would love to hear their story.
Thank you or taking the time to read my story.

Patrick,
Ellen/Eleanor/Nellie are the same name. Also Helen. I've seen them all for the first name of the same person.
Hope this is helpful.
