Looking for the parents of a Hogan Family that Lived in Killaloe, Kilkenny date range 1775-1835.  The story that was handed down was this Hogan Family had at least 11-12 children.  I have an Edmund Hogan born 1806 then left for the USA around 1846 he married a Mary, and when they left Ireland had 4 young children. Edmund would have been one of the last to leave.  The first ones to come to Charleston, South Carolina were Richard Hogan born 1812, his brother Patrick Hogan born 1813, sister Mary Alice Hogan born 1817/1818 left around 1833/1834, and came to Charleston.  Another family member Sister Margaret Hogan born 1810/1811 who married Patrick Morris in Tullaroan Parish in 1832 arrived in Charleston, around 1846/1848. Some other towns associated with this family line of Hogan's which may have been cousins, Knockeenbaun-Kilmanagh-Banse-Oldtown-Knockeenglass-Ballycallan.

Thank You for any Information on this family,

Paul Anderson

There are many Hogan baptismal records back to 1800 and earlier in Co.Kilkenny but without knowing the parents names not sure if we have the correct baptismal records.

Regarding Edmund Hogan, the subscription site Roots Ireland I located a February 23 1841 at the Ballycallan/Kilmanagh RC church between Edmund Hogan and Mary Britt. I also located four baptismal records as shown below. I'm wondering if there were two Edmund Hogan/Mary Britt couples. One in Red House the other in Ballyclovan.

By the way, Callan and Ballycallan/Kilmanagh RC parishes border each other

Elizabeth Hogan baptized April 23 1836 father Edmund Hogan mother Mary Britt RC parish Ballycallan/Kilmanagh Lived in Red House

Margaret Hogan baptized February 14 1842 father Edmund Hogan mother Mary Brett parish Callan Lived in Ballyclovan

Thomas Hogan baptized January 6 1844 father Edmund Hogan mother Mary Britt RC parish Callan Lived in Ballyclovan

Patrick Hogan baptized March 10 1846 father Edmund Hogan motherMary Britt RC parish Ballycallan/Kilmanagh Lived in Red House

Do you have the names of the four children born in Ireland?

  • Thank You Roger,

You're a Miracle Worker. I believe you're on the correct trail. I only know 2 names from Edmund's and Mary's daughters, 1. Elizabeth born abt. 1838/1839  2. Margaret born abt. 1842.  So yes, the 2 Names are correct, and the date of birth is correct on one of them, and very close on the other. I would also say that they were from Red House, that was my assumption for the last 30 years or so.  The Tithe Applotment Books list 4 Hogan's in Killaloe Parish in 1833 Edmund Hogan, Patrick Hogan, and Lawrence Hogan in Red House, and unknown Hogan living in Cappahayden, Killaloe parish.  Also had a Michael Britt in Red House, and 6 other Britts that lived in Kilmanagh Parish. so that also seems to fit the story so far. Now if I could only find Edmund's parents.  It looks like Lawrence Hogan was also part of this Family. I think it was just one family that had Edmund, and Mary Hogan, more than likely lived really close to the border of the parish.  Somewhere I read that there was a Edmund Hogan 1739-1825 , and a Catherine Brennan that Lived in Killaloe/Kilmanagh, Kilkenney, and moved to Gaulstown, Muckalee, could be a chance they might be related to them, such as Grandparents. I did find that there was 10 Hogan's living in Kilmanagh Parish in 1825.   Roger Thank You very much for what you have found, I know somehow that I'm related to all these Hogan's.

    Thank You, Roger

You are welcome! Looks like I left out the word marriage when I mentioned the February 23 1841 event but I'm sure you figured that out. Also perplexed about the 1836 baptismal record before the 1841 marriage.
