LW,
I don't know if you are on Ancestry, but there are a number of trees for Thomas Galligan there. The only reliable records on his profile are those from the US after he emigrated. One record that might help you is the 1875 NY Census that shows he is living in Wethersfield next door to a Patrick Galligan, his wife Mary and their six children. The eldest son of Patrick is Edward. There is a 22 year age gap between Thomas and Patrick, so not entirely sure they are siblings.

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9BSH-VCL?i=10&cc=14731…; 1860 Census for same family shows Thomas and Catherine Galligan with children Bridget (17), Patrick (16) and Thomas (13) all born in Ireland and children Edward (11) and Timothy (6) born in New York. The record for Patrick Galligan, his wife Mary and daughter Catherine is also on this census.
