My 2x great grandmother, Catherine McGrath, married Cornelius Meehan/Myhan in Cloonclare Parish, Leitrim in 1842 and had my great grandfather, Bernard, there in 1845. I have found many records of her in Brooklyn, NY up until her death in 1893. In the 1875 NY State census, she is listed as 55 years old and living with her son Bernard Meehan and his family. By the 1892 NY State census, Catherine (75) is living with Julia McGrath (65), James Mohan (58) and John McGrath (32 and born in the U.S.) I have not found a definitive birth record for Catherine in Leitrim because I do not know her parents’ names.
Any and all help would be appreciated.

Anne:
Cloonclare RC baptismal records start in April 1841 https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0823 so a baptismal record for Catherine would not be available. Civil registration of births started in 1864.
Have you considered DNA testing? Possibly you will have matches on the McGrath/Meehan line who have more info on your family.

Thank you, Roger. Yes, I have done DNA testing and have been lucky to “meet” many Meehan connections but none with McGrath connections yet. Crazy how many 3rd cousins I have in one small area. I’m actively working on it (GEDmatch, DNA Painter, etc) and appreciate all the help I can get!
