Searching for information on James Sandford b. ~1817 in Caledon, Tyrone. He left the area while working for the Ordnance Survey dept as a surveyor. His father was James Sandford a physician. Thank you! Brenda

Ordnance Survey was a military unit within the army. If James junior worked for them there may be records in the National Archives at Kew, London. (Might involve a visit to Kew to access the actual records, as opposed to searching the on-line indexes).

If James junior was Church of Ireland and born in Caledon, you might find his baptism in the parish records which start in 1791 (parish of Aghaloo). Copy held in PRONI in Belfast. They don’t appear to be on-line anywhere yet.
I searched the British Newspaper Archives for a mention of either James but without success.
