Dancey Family , Rakeevan, Bailieborough ,Co Cavan

Not sure if you have this info....As per RootsIreland, John Dancy and Margaret Dancy  of Rakeevan had at least four children baptized in the COI.

Roots Ireland will not have a copy of the original marriage record. You could try the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin

Regarding John Edward's baptismal record, going back to 1803 is difficult. If he was from Bailieborough a record would not be available. There is no central searchable data base of C of I records other than what is available on Roots Ireland and John Dancey is not on Roots Ireland.

There is a duplicate copy of the original Bailieborough Church of Ireland records held in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast but as with the RCB Library set in Dublin, they are not on-line and a personal visit is required to view them.  

My guide to Church of Ireland records says that rootsireland only has “some years” for this parish ie not all the possible records.

The parish itself no longer has a copy of these older records. So your choices are between the originals in the RCB library and PRONI’s set which are a microfilm copy of the originals.

I think my husband and I have to sit down and plan a trip to Ireland .......in the next couple of years. I have sent off to GRO an application for the marriage record of John Edward and Margaret. I will see what they say when they get back to me about payment, if they have the record. I thank you all for helping me. I appreciate it more than you know,

GRO won't have a copy of the marriage record. Civil records for non-Catholic marriages start in 1845.

As Roger has explained, this marriage was long before the state started to keep marriages records. The only record of it is in the church register which as I mentioned before is held in the RCB library in Dublin and another copy in PRONI Belfast.

With an exact date and parish, I am fairly sure PRONI will copy it for you (for a fee).

However do not expect much more than what Patricia has already found.  In the early 1800s most marriage records just contained the couples names, the date and their 2 witnesses. Occasionally a townland or an occupation but little else. No parents names for example. The records in PRONI are on MIC1/252 and contain:

Baptisms, 1824-1985; marriages, 1809-1944; burials, 1809-1915; list of preachers, 1825-7; map of Lisnalea and Greagharue, Co. Cavan, 1809.

               In the 1857 Griffith’s Valuation of Cavan, there was one head of household named Dancey/Dancy in Rakeevan:

• Griffith         Dancey Edward             Rakeevan         Bailieborough     Co. Cavan

In the Tithe Applotment Books, usually 1820s-1830s (no date given), there were two in Rakeevan:

• Dancy    Richard Rakeevan            Bailieborough     Meath  
• Dancy    John       Rakeevan            Bailieborough     Meath

Perhaps Elwyn or Roger would explain why this is Meath and not Cavan?

I think these tithe records have been filed under the wrong county by mistake. They should be under Cavan. I have come across this once before with some records that related to another county.
