I have many family members buried at the Lindsay family burying ground at Seagoe Churchyard, however, I can't seem to find any memorials anywhere ! What am I missing?

  • Seagoe gravestones may not have been transcribed by anyone. That may well be the reason you can't find them. Other consideration is what your ancestors' occupations were. Poorer people couldn't afford gravestones so many labourers and weavers are in unmarked graves.

  • I found many family death notices in the Portadown News, between 1919 and 1957. All of them stated "The remains were interred in the family burying ground in Seagoe Churchyard".

Just wanted to clarify the above statement.

How can I obtain an address for the Seagoe Churchyard where their remains are buried?

Would they all be in separate unmarked graves? even if it says the family burying ground?

Trying to understand how this worked and if I can get any kind of proof of them being there.

    Thank you !!

  • The graveyard is managed by Armagh, Banbridge & Craigavon Council:

Contact them to see what records they hold. My general experience is that burial records in Ireland don’t go back very far but you might be lucky with one as recent as 1957.

As to your question about whether your family might be in an unmarked plot, the answer is yes. Or it might just say “Lindsay” or similar.
