Bridget b 1845 and Edward b @ 1836 lived in Murvey, I believe they were brother and sister and their father's name was Edward.
They both say they were born in Clifden but I am unable to find any records of births or marriages though Bridget married John Folan and, I think, Edwards wife was called Mary.
Any help at all would be fantastic and much appreciated

Maureen:
I located an 1878 marriage for a Bridget Burke and Joseph Folan in Carna. See third record.
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re…
The father of Bridget was shown as Richard.
Is this the correct couple?

Maureen,
To add to Roger McDonnell's Post, I attach a record of a marriage between John Folan and Bridget Burke in 1868. Record not found in Civil records.
A son John baptised in Roundstone on June 1st 1873. Address: Murvey.
Subscrtiption site www.findmypast.ie - has a record of the marriage on December 20th 1868, but the church record is so poor. Bridget is recorded as "Muck".

Hi Roger, thankyou so much for your help, unfortunately these are not the right people.
Hi McCoy, I think that this could be the marriage I have been looking for, the only thing that is bothering me is that John and Bridget had a son, Thomas, who I believe was born 1864, he emigrated to Pennsylvania. Could they possibly have had a child before they married? Pity the church records are so difficult to read, I was hoping to find John's father too. Thankyou for replying, much appreciated.

Maureen,
The only Thomas Folan that I found was born in 1862 to John Folan and Anne Nee. Anne was from Meenish. They married in Carna May 9th 1856. No address for John. Centre of right hand page for parish entry.
I attach copy of the 1901 census for John Folan - Senior - Murvey.
I911 records have John and Julia, so apparently John, Senior and his wife Bridget had died?
Best Wishes

Hi McCoy, I think there must be more than one couple of John Folan and Bridget Burke. I now have the birth records of Mary Ann Folan daughter of John and Bridget of Murvey and Bridget Folan b1866 daughter of John and Bridget Folan of Murvey.
As regards Thomas Folan, I cannot find where I got my info from, the only thing I have at the moment is that I am a DNA match to his great grandson. Maybe I have assumed that to be enough to connect Thomas to my grandfather, Michael Folan b@1875 in Murvey to John and Bridget. Would that be possible ?
What a tangle everything seems to be in !

Maureen,
The problem is that there were many families named "Folan" in the area in the 1800's.
I attach two records from Griffith's Valuations: House Valuations 1853 for the townland of Murvey and house and land valuations printed in 1855.
In the House Valuations 1853 there is no record of a Michael Folan in Murvey, but there is in the 1855 record. He is a Tenant of Michael Keane. Could he be the father of John Folan?
There is a record of a Michael Folan born in Murvey on October 20th 1875. Parents: Stephen Folan and Celia King. This couple married in Carna on March 18th 1866. Stephen's address was "Dolan" and Celia was from "Ellestreen".
I have contacted the Registration office in Galway and requested that the original Roundstone register for the years 1864 to 1875 be checked for the marriage of a "John Folan" in that period. I will let you know the result.

McCoy

Maureen,
I had a reply from the Registration office in Galway. No record found for the marriage of a John Folan and Bridget Burke in the original Roundstone register 1864 to 1875. Do you know the number of children born to John and Bridget. Is Bridget a sister to Julia and John in the 1901 census?

Maureen,
I attach a page from the baptisms register for Moyrus parish - Page number 27. At the bottom of the page it states that records 1863 to 1868 are missing.
Page 41 has the date 1870 on the left side and 1853 on the right. Apparently the pages got mixed up during filming.
Page 119 has a record of marriages for 1825. The writing is pretty clear in part.
Your question in regard to another "John Folan and Bridget Burke". I believe there is only one couple.
The record for 1868 is possibly wrong. You have a Civil record for Bridget 1866, Mary, 1868, John, 1873. There is Michael and "Julia" to be accounted for.
Do you have any contact with the family of Edward Burke..
Best Wishes,
McCoy

Hi McCoy,
What a lot to take in ! I believe that Bridget is the sister of John and Julia who are on the 1901 census and Michael is my grandfather born in Murvey @ 1875 to John Folan and Bridget Burke. I will try and send you the info which I have found. Thankyou for all your time and trouble, I will now look at all the stuff you have sent through to me.
I have not been able to find anything about Edward and Bridget Burke apart from a marriage of an Edward Burke to a lady called Mary where his father was also Edward. I am not sure if it is my Edward because there seem to be quite a lot of Edward Burkes around, also, there was a riot at Roundstone and both Bridget and Edward were arrested. It was very interesting because a desciption of them was given and it was quite a surprise to find that they both had 'flaxen hair'. Also, I wondered where John Folan was when all this was going on, why was he not involved ?
best wishes
Maureen

McCoy, I have no contact with anyone belonging to Edward Burke, I have the marriage cert. of my grandfather, Michael Folan/Forlan to Elizabeth Nolan, his father is John Folan and he was born in Murvey.
I have found a birth record of 'Judith' Folan daughter of John and Bridget, I think it is a mistake and should read Julia.
