In the Statistical survey of Armagh by Charles Coote, it mentions that farmers had a "boxed car for carrying home turf" and it might have creels. What exactly is a boxed car? I have seen references and pictures of a slide car with creels which is pulled by a donkey or horse.

Greetings Kyle,
Yes you are correct in your assumption. In rural Ireland it was an easy and quick way to bring home turf by bulk from the field. It would first be harvested and left to dry in heaps in the bog and when ready, then the Farmer and his donkey and cart would bring it home. Wonderful heat from it, but its very dusty and lots of ashes the following morning left in the fire grate to be cleaned out.
