My gg grandfather was born 1st Jan 1838 at Cuing Beg near Knockmore, Mayo. I found an entry confirming his birthdate. His father’s name was listed as Anthony Hughes as well, but there is no mention of his mother. I believe that my ggg grandfather was a horsekeeper.
I did find an Anthony Hughes listed in Griffiths Valuation of Tenements who was renting Townlands called Coolcronaun in the Parish of Ballynahaglish.
My gg grandfather eventually married Honora Wall in Dunmore, Galway on 15th Jan 1857 and emigrated to England.
I was just wondering how I can get more details with respect to his birth and perhaps that would give me enough information to go back further. I am having a difficult time as I am not familiar with searching in Ireland.
I appreciate any suggestions. Thank you for any help.

Elaine, I found on rootsireland the baptism of Patt Hughes, son of Anthony Hughes and Bridget Barrett, of Coolerane, in RC parish of Backs/Knockmore (same parish your Anthony was baptized in). Sponsors were Michael and Mary Barrett. Perhaps this is a brother of your Anthony?

Date of above Patt's baptism: 04-Mar-1846.

Hi Patricia, It could possibly be a connection. Coolcronaun as set out in the Valuation of Tenements and Coolerane must be the same name. That’s exciting. I will keep looking. Thank you so much for your help. I appreciate you taking the time to look for me. Elaine
