I don't see anything regarding Cartys here when I do a "search" of the message board, so I'm not optimistic, but I'll give it a try! My great great grandmother was Helen/Eleanor/Eleanora Carty, baptized at Boyle, Roscommon on the 13th of July, 1826. I also have at least 2 siblings, Patrick, March 6th, 1821 and John, Sept. 16th, 1823. I have some suspected siblings, but cannot find any substantiating baptismal/birth records, just names from sponsors on later baptisms elsewhere that might suggest their connection. No confirmed spouses/descendants have been found for either of Helen's siblings. The parents I have for these 3 are John Carty and Catherine (or Honoria) McDonagh. There was a Catherine McDonagh baptized at Boyle on the 5th of Sept. 1803, but I cannot confirm it's the same woman. The parents of this Catherine were Bernard McDonagh and Catherine McDonnell.
Helen/Eleanora married Daniel Kilmartin on the 27th of August, 1843, somewhere in Ireland, and on the 5th of December, 1845, they had their 1st child Michael baptized at Drumcliff. They would soon emigrate to Glasgow, some time after that, but before 1848, where the remainder of their children would be born, including my great grandfather. I have some indication that Helen's mother Catherine may have followed her to Glasgow, but I cannot confirm that.
The only "solid" info' I have is the baptisms of the 3 siblings above, the date of the marriage of Helen Carty and Dan Kilmartin in 1843, the baptism of their son Michael in Drumcliff, Sligo in 1845, and then finally, on the death record for Helen in Glasgow in 1904 where it indicates her parents' names as John Carty & Catherine McDonagh. Anything else is speculation.
I've had reasonable success tracking down related families of some of my other Irish ancestors via Ancestry.com and AncestryDNA, but finding any connection to my Carty ancestors has eluded me for more than 2 decades. Any suggestions on how to track down anything regarding these Cartys will be appreciated. Neil Kilmartin, Port Perry ON Canada neilMkilmartin at gmail dot com

Hi, RootsIreland also shows a Martin Carty, bap. 1827. His mother and that of his three siblings is given as Honor, not Catherine.

Going by Irish naming patterns, if Patrick was the eldest child, there's a strong possibility that Patrick was the name of John Carty's father.

The mother's name on all 3 children that I have, Eleanora (Helen), John and Patrick is given as Honoria. The name Catherine was only used in later years in a couple of documents not directly associated with her. Who was the father in the Martin that you saw? And, as far as naming patterns, I have just considered that, hoping that there's more siblings, but I'm expecting that others aren't evident because of the spotty church records evident in some Irish parishes. I've just been advised today to consider Irish naming patterns, and yes, I would expect that the father John's father might be Patrick. And that would suggest that I'd expect to see a Bernard, being named after the father I suspect might be Honoria/Catherine's. But as her parentage is speculation... I cannot say. Sure wish someone would pop up on my DNA with some Carty, Boyle heritage!

The father for all four children was John Carty.

So, can I confidently add Martin, baptized 1827, Boyle to John Carty and Honoria McDonagh? And an aside… Signed up to this website yesterday and posted and got your first messages. Then today I got an email, asking me to sign up for message boards and give my credit card info. Didn’t. And, do I get email notifications of replies? I didn’t. ??? Neil in Canada Let’s hope I can get back on again, bit of a challenge!

There's no charge to use the message board. Maybe alert Ireland XO at info@irelandxo.com.

Yes, you can add him to your tree. The transcription on rootsireland says Martin Carty was baptized 11-Nov-1827 in the Catholic parish of Boyle, Co. Roscommon. Parents: John Carty, Honor McDonagh. Sponsors: Michael Carty, Mary Crummy. Remember that this info is from a transcription. It's always a good idea to look at the actual register.

I will try to find that image to add it. I think I found the other 3 children's baptism's on the NLI site, but it's a challenge to navigate & scroll through as my eye sight isn't my strength. Not many of those at this stage! :) I had hoped to find some descendant info' for Martin on Ancestry, and maybe make a connection to my family. But no luck. And my DNA testing certainly hasn't led me to any other kin directly descending from my scant "Cartys of Boyle", other than those resulting from my Eleanora/Helen Carty's marriage to Daniel Kilmartin in Sligo in 1843.
