I presume your ancestors were Church of Ireland. I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland for baptismal records for then four individuals mentioned but did not find a possible lead. I also looked for a Crawford/Holmes marriage in either Laois or Offaly with no success.

Roots Ireland has a few C of I parishes with records back to the late 1700s or earlier so your ancestors were not from those parishes. Many of the C of I parish records were destroyed in the 1922 Public Records Office fire in Dublin. Some parishes have maintained their records locally while other parishes have their records at the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin, however, at this time those records are not integrated into a searchable data base.

I also checked the Tithe listings from the late 1820s but did not find a lead.

I am also looking for a DNA match to confirm the parish my 3x great grandfather was from. His name was Michael Connor born 1783 in Queens County. He died Jan 12, 1868 in North Brant, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada.His wife was Mary Murphy born July 1799 also in Queens County and died Feb16, 1880 in North Brant, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. I have a picture of their gravestone in Canada with this information. I have no record of when either emigrated to Canada or if they were married in Canada or Ireland. I also do not have any proof of their parents names but I did find a baptism record for a Mary Murphy from Ballinakill, Laois, Ireland on July 11, 1799 from “Ireland, Select Catholic Birth and Baptism Registers, 1763-1917”. The parents of this Mary Murphy are listed as Michl Murphy and Mary Glennan. I also have info from the Catholic Parish register, 1655-1915 for the same Mary Murphy, July 11, 1799 with the same parents but the baptism place is now listed as Ballynakill, Laois not Ballinakill and,

The Parish Variants are Ballenakill, Ballyroan, Abyleix and Knocgordegur, Ballinakill, Dusart Galen, and the

Diocese is Kildare and Leighlin. 

Due to the fact that both of my ancestors have very common Irish names I am hoping for a DNA match to confirm which Parish is actually theirs before I travel to Ireland.

Has anyone had any luck with my request from Feb 2923? I have DNA results from Ancestry.ca and I have uploaded my results to GENmatch also. This Brick wall has plagued me for over 4 years so any help would be much appreciated. I am 70 years old and do not have any knowledge on how to match DNA with Irish DNA so help in this would be awesome.

The percentage of people in Ireland taking DNA tests is at a lower rate than Canadians/ Americans etc. However, they are testing with the same companies that are available in Canada or the USA. They also have the opportunity to upload their data to Gedmatch.

Any DNA matches with your Connor/Murphy lines would likely be a fourth or fifth cousin or even more distant.

So you have done your DNA with Ancestry and uploaded the results to Gedmatch - so Gedmatch then issue you with a Kit Number

Have you got that number and I will try and help you to run your kit in different DNA groups here in Ireland
