Hello I am trying to trace some ancestors possibly in co. Tyrone. So far the info I have is as follows:
John Chisholm born c 1804-1811 in ireland. Living in Scotland by 1851. Died 1864 in Glasgow. His father was Andrew Chisholm, general labourer.
Married Sarah Hendry presumably in ireland. Born c 1811 in ireland. Died 1859 in Glasgow. Parents Samuel Hendry and Jean harrison.
Their son James was born 5th August 1832 in co. Tyrone according to his Scottish marriage cert. His known siblings born in Scotland.
Not sure about religion, although my gran Annie Chisholm was protestant. I believe both Chisholm and hendry are Scottish surnames so possibly came over during the plantation.
Any info appreciated. Thanks

Ann-Marie,
Registration of births and deaths only started in Ireland in 1864. Tracing events before that can be challenging, especially in the late 1700s and early 1800s as often no records exist.
I looked at Chisholm in Tyrone in the 1901 census. There were only a few but all were Presbyterian which tends to support your view that the family originated in Scotland and came to Ireland as part of the Plantation. Or perhaps later in the 1600s, as a lot of Scots arrived in the 1690s due to famine in Scotland.
I noticed an Andrew Chism death in 1865, aged 87. Registered in Castlederg. You might feel it's worth having a look at that. You can view it on the GRONI website for £2.50.
