Looking for information on Mary J Vaughan ( Mohan/ Maughn) born about 1855 in Clifden. She married Valentine Carroll in 1874 or so and had son Patrick in 1875. they then emmigrated to Boston. Have not been able to find a birth certificate for Mary - her parents appear to be Festus Vaugn & Anne Conneely. I also do not have any information about her sibblings

I responded to your prior message on Mary Vaughan/Mohan with father Festus but can't locate the message. Do you know if the message was deleted?

I remembered the family was from Faul townland in Moyrus civil parish. Here is Anne Conneely in the 1901 census http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Galway/Clifden/Paul/13…
Mary had a brother Patrick baptized in Clifden on October 25 1853 with father Festus Vaughan and mother Anne Coneela with sponsors John Coneela and Honor Coneela.
Looks like there are other siblings where the mother was shown as Anne Vaughan rather than Anne Conneely.

hi Roger- I did not see the other reply. this is great information. looks like there was also a brother John. the Conneely/ Coneela etc names are tough to follow but I guess so is Vaughan/ Mohan. thank you for this info and please feel free to share anything else you may locate. I am going to try and dig some more. Appreciate it!!! Karen

I think you may need to sign-up for a short-term subscription to Roots Ireland to try to unscramble two or three families all with a father named Festus Vaughan. There is one in Faul and anotheralso in Clifden parish and then a third in Ballyconneely RC parish with. I think your family is in Faul.
I found a number of Vaughan baptismal records but some showed a mother Annie Vaughan and others Conneely or a variant spelling.
I would stick to Clifden records. The second family was in Ballyconneela RC parish.
For the Faul family there were triplets Thomas, Anne and Bridget baptized March 25 1873
John June 11 1864
Anthony March 11 1871
Honor February 28 1864 NOTE John and Honor 3 months apart. That is why I question if there were two families in Clifden.
Martin March 10 1861
Daniel October 10 1858
I know this is confusing. Let me know if you have questions.

Hi Roger and John- sorry I did not see these responses sooner. Roger- I too think there is more than one family mixed in - there appears to be 2 Mary Vaughans. Mine was born in 1855 and the other in 1867 I believe. and I know the second one is not correct because my Mary was married in 1874 and while they married young back then, not that young! John- I wonder if that is the same Mary J Vaughan. do you know her date of birth? I may just have to roll up my sleeves and try to untangle this mess with Roots Ireland. Apprecaite any and all suggestions. thanks Karen

According to my Family Tree.
We are from the Vaughan Family from Faul, Clifden Co. Galway. There were no Birth Certificates at the time.
Mary Vaughan was born 1855 or 1856.
Martin Vaughan was born 1859 died 1943.
Norah was born 1860.
Triplets was born Annie, Bridget and son 1861
John was born 1866 died 1942
Margaret was born 1869 died 1955
Their parents Festus Vaughan born 1822 died 1891 and Ann Conneely was born 1834 died 1912
There were two families in the area one in Faul and one in Derrygimla. We are the Faul Family.

Hi John- thanks for the update. I think we may be related as that matches the Mary Vaughan from my tree who married Valentine Carroll. Where is your tree? mine can be viewed on Ancestry. and can I ask where you are from? we live the Mass. thanks again. Karen

John- I have been doing soime digging on the info that you sent ( thanks). I find no record of Norah Vaughn, but I have found Hannah Vaughn who needs to be added to your list born in 1869 died 1943 in MA. Also the triplets were born 25/03/1873- we have Anne, Bridget and Thomas and amazingly they all survived! Been trying to split our Faul ancestors from the "other" Festus Vaughn family which has been a challenge. but I think I have cleaned it up hope this helps Karen

Roger- I took your advise and have been trying to unravel the mystery! I am stuck on the Honora and John births. they both appear to be tied to th or e Clifden family. I wonder if one of them might have been adopted from another family member? or do we just possiby have a clerical error? Also, I cannot find a record of the birth of Hannah Vaughn in 1871 (?). I have a passenger log where she was coming to Boston to visit her sister Mary Carroll so that's how I know it is the correct Hannah Vaughn. appreciate your thoughts. thanks! Karen

I was talking to my aunt Agnes today. She is 85 years old. She told me there was a Hannah in the family that Hannah real name is Hanora. She told me about the triplets Annie, Bridget and a boy. According to my aunt she told me the boy when he was a infant an the two girls survive. Annie married Martin Cottingham and Bridget went to America. I live in Mayo. I was reared in the outskirts of Clifden town about a mile and a half from Faul. Festus Vaughan father was Daniel born 1800. Daniel had a brother called Martin born 1801. Martin probably married in Derrygimbla and they had a son called Festus.

Hello to my 1st cousin, John Lee. Do you have any family photos? In ancestry.com you will find the info I've tracked down. There are photos of my Mother, Margaret, with "Nibbs", as my mother, affectionately called your mother. I loved your Mom & remember you visiting my NJ home when we were young, and you still lived in the USA.
i have been ' back' to Faul 3x now, and would love to see you during my next visit.
hugs, for now:Diane Ward Koch
