Seeking information on Sheppard descendants of Captain Thomas Sheppard who came to Ireland with Cromwell...and stayed.  The Sheppard's property included Castle John of S County Tipperary.  Specifically I'm interested in Rev Thomas Sheppard who married Hannah Dawson in 1770. I'm interested in where he studied for ministry and what positions or churches he served.  Rev Thomas was the son of John Sheppard and Ellen Hore

Thank you,

John D Sheppard

  • Hi John,

I suggest that you contact  tipperarystudies.ie  who have details on Fennor parish church - R.C.and COI. In the list of clergy for Fennor there is a "Thomas Sheppard MA" - years 1770 to 1781. Apparently the church is no longer in existence. I would check with Trinity College in Dublin for a record of the Rev. Thomas.

Crosse Genealogical Abstracts have pages on the Sheppard families from their move to Ireland. It appears that Tipperary comes under "Sheppard Waterford". There is also a website - Genealogy Wise which is operated by a Dave Bates. Check out  "Sheppard Family by Dave Bates".
