McGreal, McGuire, Haddican Family

Here is a link to the 1855 Griffiths Valuation  for Bekan parish. No Haddican records but a few McGuire and McGreal records. Possibly Thomas McGreal and Bridget McGuire came from Bracklaghboy townland. 

I checked the subscription site Roots Ireland. I did find one baptismal record for an Edward Haddican. You did not mention in your message so I decided to share the specifics from the record.

Edward Haddican born January 1 1852 and baptized January 7 1852 at Bekan. Father John Haddican mother  Brid McGuire sponsors Martin Lyons and Mary Haddican

Bekan records start in 1832 and are on Roots Ireland. There were about ten Haddican records up to 1850, ten McGreal and about six McGuire. You can get short-term subscriptions to Roots Ireland.

Thank-you very much Roger. I so appreciate the time you took to find this info. I will certainly subscribe to Roots Ireland and follow this lead. I'm sure they were most likely related as there wouldn't have been that many people in Bekan Parish at that time.  I wasn't aware of John and Bridget having another child before they left for America but it is surely a possibility and the name Edward was given as a middle name to others in the family. I notice that this area in Mayo County is very close to Roscommon. Do you think I would be wise to check records in parishes of that county or did families stay fairly close to one another?  These are great clues and certainly are helpful. There is also a record for a Mary born 18 DEC 1851 to a Bernard McGuire and Catherine McGreal Sponsor John Haddican and Judy McGuire.

On Page 9 Left there is a record for James Haddican married to a Mary Grogan.

There was a John Haddigan in Bekan Townland in approx 1856 for the Griffiths. Notice slightly different spelling.

It should be possible to see where exactly he resided and if he had land in the Cancelled Land Valuations in Lower Abbey St in Dublin.

valuationservices@valoff.ie They may be able send you copies of Bekan townland Parish (including the map) of Bekan Co. Mayo at a fairly reasonable price.

It would be interesting to see who took over the holding to see if they may have been connected.. 

I also notice on the 04 Feb 1856 a Michael born to a John Mc Greal and Mary Frehilly.
