I am seeking information on Fr. John Nash who ministered in the diocese of Limerick in the 1840s. He ministered in Bruff and St. Mary's parish in Limerick city. He disappears from all records after the 1840s and I am wondering what became of him.

  • Hi John,  looking up names priests in the Diocese of Limerick  1704 to 1836 see Fr Nash as Curate, and nothing else about him.

It should be possible to find where he was ordained, as all priests had to be enumerated because of the Penal laws.

If you contact the archivest in Maynooth, they have records from Salamanca as well for the past ten years.

Searched for death notice  for him on  Limerick  local studies Library  Obituarys from Limerick Chronicle.

Also have you searched for Headstone at www.historicgraves.ie

Best of Luck, let me know how you get on

  • Hi Christina

Thank you so much for your email your endeavours are very appreciated. I have checked all the avenues you suggested and no luck. In many cases clergy at this time tended sometimes to disappear almost without trace from the records. My email address is johnocarroll0@gmail.com if you wish to get in touch.

Thank you so much once again.
