Can anyone tell me what parish Lisaniska is in?  I had thought it was in "Backs", but that does not seem to be correct.   Thanks for any info you may be able to share.

  • The townland of Lissaniska (spelled with two s's in the first syllable, at least these days, which may be why you had trouble finding it), is in the civil parish of Drum.  You can see more info about Lissaniska (in Irish, Lios an Uisce, meaning "ring fort of the water") at this link:

The civil parish of Drum (or at least most of it) is in the Catholic parish of Balla, which is a few parishes to the south of Attymass.  The Catholic parish records for Balla which are available online go back to 1837 (with some earlier marriage records), and are available at this llink:

  • There is also a similar name in county Galway.

Lissaniska is in the Electoral Division of Drumkeary, in Civil Parish of Ballynakill, in the Barony of Leitrim, in the County of Galway
