Hi - looking for recommendatins of how to find the relevant parish of an ancestor. Here's what we know.
1. Name John Dockerty (also spelled as Dougherty, Dogherty, Doggery) in UK Census's from 1851-1901 onwards
2. Born 1841-1849 from references on census, marriage certificate, death certificate
3. He was married, had children and died in the North East (Durham) of England. Marriage was in Catholic Church and their children were baptised within the Catholic Church.
4. His father was Martin (Dougherty), a farmer (from marriage certificate).
5. His wife was Ann Curran (also born Ireland, but moved to England before the age of 3 with parents Henry Curran/Rose Carvil) - can find no evidence of any Curran's being near John Dockerty prior to their married in 1868 in Washington, Durham.
6. County Mayo is reference as birthplace on UK Census from 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901.
Any ideas how to find the relevant parish in order to track down birth / baptism etc?

In case the person whom Patricia found for you is the right one, you might want to check out the Catholic parish records for Addergoole. They go back to 1840, so you ought to be able to find a baptismal record. The records are availablee online here:
https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0736
If you find a baptismal record, it will often indicate the townland in which the family lived. Here is a link to more info about the civil parish of Addergoole, with a list of all the townlands in the parish, and fuirther links to onfo about each townland:
https://www.townlands.ie/mayo/addergoole2/
Civil parishes (which are administrative districts) and church parishes do not always have the same name or exactly the same boundaries, but in the case of Addergoole they appear to be roughly the same.
