I am attempting to find new information about my Lanigan ancestors from Tipperary.

My great-great grandfather William Lanigan was apparently born in Barnane,Tipperary April 6 1832.

He emigrated to Victoria around 1851, with his younger sister Anne Lanigan (O'Keefe).

William's father was Michael Lanigan (1795 - 1872).

William's mother was Jane (Searson) Lanigan (circa 1794 - 1878).

I have scant details to confirm, but Michael's father is listed as John Lanigan.

Apparently there were seven siblings:

Mary (Lanigan) Corcoran 1821-1898;

Daniel Lanigan 1825-??;

Catherine Lanigan 1829-??;

Martin Lanigan 1834-??;

Anne (Lanigan) O'Keefe 1837-1913;

James Lanigan 1839-1926;

Jane Lanigan (Fitzpatrick) 1839-1826.

Any information to confirm any of this information would be very appreciated, as well as any living Irish relatives that may exist.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

    William was baptized April 6 1832 in Templemore RC parish. Father Michael mother listed as Johanna Searson. They lived in Kilduff townland which is in Killea civil parish. I found this information on the subscription site Roots Ireland. I found baptismal records for the siblings you listed except I did not find a recrd for Jane. I also did not find the marriage record. Michael was not listed in the 1850 Griffiths Valuation for Killea parish. However, there was a John Lanigan ESQ. listed in Barnane and possibly this is Michael's father? https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/tipperary/killea.htm

    Is this Jane's death record?  Third record on page https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1878/020501/7194444.pdf   The townland is Clonmore which is in Killavinoge civil parish which is west of Killea. The informant was Luke Keenan. Not sure how he is connected to Michael and Jane.

  • Thank you Roger, that is fantastic.

    Is it posiible to get copies of the baptismal records for William and his siblings please?

    I had some information that Jane Searson, was actually a Johanna, so that is good confirmation, thanks.

    Its possible that Jane may have been a wife to one of Williams siblings as the death record shows her as a Lanigan, but a widow.

    Many thanks again for the information.

  • Lano:

    The best we can do for the baptismal records is the parish register  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0258   You will have to search thru the registers for the entries.
