  • Hello Alan, I have been asked to look over older unanswered queries and came across this one. I can find no birth or marriage to match your query, there was a Joseph Copland born in Co. Down in 1802. Father James mother not recorded but as it is a Presbyterian birth they did not record the mother's name but often the Christian name, at this remove Irish records are dependent on church records hence the religion assists in knowing were to look but it is safe to say that church records at that remove are not all available, more not available than are.

There is a Joseph marrying a Flemming lady in Derry or Londonderry in 1820, he is in the military. This family would have moved with the regiment, a Fusillers, 17th I think.

Otherwise Tullamore is a large town in Offaly, Tullamain is a parish in Tipperary, Tullamaine is in Kilkenny etc

The name Copland is probably a variant of Copeland and I associate it with County Down, probably from an electoral division in England called Copeland which is in the north west.

Apologies for the delay but probably because we could not match your information.

    Good Luck
