My Great Grand Father William Curley was born in Galway Ireland about 1842, His Marriage certificate to Mary Collins in Prescot England in 1865 says his father was Peter Curley. His death certificate in New York USA says his Father was Peter Curley. I have run my DNA and I am strong for Galway around Lough Corib and Mask. I have searched on line parish records through Find My Past. Can not find a Peter Curley or a Peter Curley with a son William. Any ideas on what to search?

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
A search of the subscription site Roots Ireland failed to find a baptismal record for a William Curley with father Peter. Likely their RC parish does not have records back to 1840. There were six Peter Curley records in the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Co. Galway. The one closest to the area around Lake Corrib would be a Peter Curley in Ower townland in Killannin civil parish. Of course, we don't know if your Peter was alive and leasing land in 1855.
I did not see a Peter Curley death record in the area around Ower.
There were two Curley families in Ower in the 1901 census.

You can add William Curley to our XO Chronicles site https://irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-database

Thanks for the information Roger. I had seen the Griffiths Valuation entries and like you had not found them leading to a son William. I also used the Irish Dog License data base and no luck there. I will put William Curley on the XO Chronicles site. Still hoping for a break through. Peter

Roger, I searched the records of the parishes you listed. I used Find My Past and then The National Library of Ireland records. I even looked into each parish that borders Lough Corrib and Lough Mask. Either they did not have the years I need to check or only partial years. No luck. Does Roots have more records than these two sites?

Greetings from Galway
As you have done a DNA test please join the Curley Ancestor Project on gedmatch.com as well as the FB group https://www.facebook.com/groups/CurleyGenealogy
The Curley name looks to have originated in Airgíalla later Oriel leading to the Gaelic surname Mac Oirealla meaning son of the person from Airgialla https://curleysurname.weebly.com/irish.html
The main Galway Curley branches are in the east of the county in a broad sweep from Ballygar west to Tuam and south to Balliansloe . Boston Mayor James Michael Curleys branch was possibly from near Tuam but directly was from Oughterard
my username on ancestry is martincurley if you have done your test there
Look forward to seeing what branc of the tree you fit in to

Martin according to Ancestry DNA we share 33 CM across 3 segments and we have a common ancestor William Curley my Great grandfather. I looked at he facebook Curley Group but it is private . I sent a request to join. Need to discuss the listing of Patrick Curley as our common grear great grandfather. I don't believe it is him. Pete
