Hello, I'm looking for any information regarding my ancestors who resided in Lismore and all left for New York sometime around the Famine. Their names are Thomas Keresey, born 1834; his father James Keresey, born c. 1785; and his mother Julia Kent (maiden name), born c. 1789. Thank you!

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland from 1829-1839 and althouth there are Keresey baptismal records in Lismore RC parish during that time period, none had a father James. I had expanded my search to all of Co. Waterford but could not find a record for Thomas. Perhaps he was baptized in the neighboring parish of Ballyduff where baptismal records do not begin until 1849.
I also looked at the 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Co. Waterford and although there were ten Kerressy records none showed the given name James.

Hi - I am looking for an Ellen Looney around this area. She was an orphan girl at the famine time and sailed to Melbourne Australia on the ship "New Liverpool".
When I read your message it made me think of Ellen's descendants (and others) always seemed to change their names! Nicknames were very much vogue at the time. Maybe check to see if the birth or christening dates might be close to the timeframe. However, I am also aware that changing their age was quite 'popular"!
Happy searching,
Lorna
