Cain/Keane/Coyne and Mannion relatives from Clifden

Clifden is one of the few Galway West RC parishes that has records back into the first part of the 19th century with baptismal and marriage records starting in 1838. I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and found an 1849 baptismal record for a Gregory Kane (see below) and I'm wondering if he would be your Henry G. baptized March 24 1849?  I didn't find a record for Patrick or William but you may want to scan the parish register                    https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/1046

I did not find any baptismal records for children of Patrick Cain and Mary Callaghan but likely they were all born before 1838.

I also looked at the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Omey civil parish which includes Clifden  https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/galway/omey.htm  According to your notes Patrick Cain died in 1856 so possibly he was listed in the Griffiths. There is a Patrick Coyne in Moorneen and also a Patrick Kane in Mauneed (Streamstown). No way to know if either is a record for your ancestor.

Thank you so much!!  I am sure that the baptismal record that you list is the Henry G Cain that I listed above.  First the G does stand for Gregory also the father and mothers name are correct in addition to the informants name (Valentine) being a family name.

I will look through the parish register and see what I can find.

Parrish Blanding

I am researching the Cain/Kane family in the barony of Coolavin Co.Sligo. ( border of Roscommon) Relevant Church records are Ballaghaderreen and Gurteen. I have had mixed results regarding in particular the Shroove and Moygara branches of the name, but no direct inter-connection between both so far. I did manage to establish that my great great grandmother Biddy Cain was born in 1775. A great source of disappointment is the fact that neither the parish of Ballaghaderreen or Gurteen kept death records during the pre 1864 period. Is there anyone out there that is following a similar line of research?  A completely contrasting interest which I have concerns the Bell family of Co.Mayo, in particular Purranes and Hollymount. I am specifically interested in a possible marriage between a Bell and an O'Gara from Bekan Co.Mayo. Family suggest that there was such a union, and if this is correct they would have been parents of Archbishop Bernard O'Gara of Tuam. Any relevant information on this would be very welcome.

The children born in 1942- must have known my family at some point if they lived in Clifden and went to school in Clifden as well. My grandfather, Desmond O'Connell was an Episcopal Priest, and he and his wife Phyllis (Millar was her maiden name and her father, James Millar owned the Mill.) The Mill was famous for it's beautiful Wool (Irish sweater’s and more), and employed many people in Clifden. The Mill is no longer standing but they (Family-Ron Millar and his wife, own the Millar’s of Connemara it’s an expensive Store, sadly. My grandfather O’Connell and his Wife Phyllis had 5 children, the boys were , Fred, David and Ian, the girls, Variety and Heather. David O’Connell is my wonderful father and wrote a book about his life in Ireland, as well as Africa, eventually Canada and then they moved to the US when my father was 17. My father, David had 3 daughters, Tara, Deidre and Shannon and we were born and raised in San Diego, CA. My Grandfather, Desmond Charles O’Connell went to Trinity College in Dublin and so did his father, Charles O’Connell, who taught Languages of the Irish or Celtic Languages. Both my Great Grandfather O’Connell and Grandfather O’Connell got their PhD’s one in Languages and one in Sociology and Divinity. My grandfather O’Connell was The Very Reverend Episcopal Priest at a Church in Clifden and I can’t remember the name but I think it was Holy Trinity, perhaps? I’ll find out more when I call my father again (just tried to but he is out). I could have screwed up spelling at the actual Church name but I will find out the information.
