I'm looking for informations about the family of Colman McDonough and Bridget Halleran of Ard on Lough Corrib. Their son, Patrick J. (1853) emigrated to Boston and settled in Norwood, Massachusetts marrying Sarah M. Kelly. I would love to connect with anyone who could help fill in a picture of the family.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and found the marriage record in 1843. I located Patrick's baptismal record in 1853 (see below) and baptismal record transcriptions for five siblings Peter 1844 Bridget 1846 John 1850 Michael 1857 Thomas 1860. The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing shows three Coleman/Colman McDonagh records https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/galway/kilcummin.htm Likely your ancestors came from one of those three townlands.

Hi sstansut:
Thank you for your post. I will ask one of our local volunteers in that area if he can assist you with your query.
I also have McDonoughs in my family tree who settled in Fall River.
All the best,
Jane

Hi,
In relation to your query I do not see any McDonough's in Griffith Valuations for the townland of Ard, which is a small townland. The adjoining townland of Ardnasillagh has a Patrick Halloran.
In relation to "Colman McDonagh", in Griffith's this relates to Carraroe area which is in the Civil Parish of Kilcummin. The 1854 House Valuations records Colman McDonagh (Patrick) and Colman McDonagh (Mathias) in Carraroe South. The first name "Colman" is mainly associated with th Coastal Area.
The Kilcummin Catholic records have the following entries:
Peter McDonagh: Baptism April 4th 1844, Bridget McDonagh: Baptism June 4th 1846, John McDonagh: Baptism April 4th 1850, Patrick 1853 as shown by Castlemore, Michael McDonagh: Baptism September 6th 1857, Thomas McDonagh: Baptism April 8th 1860. Unfortunately no addresses are shown for any of those entries. Peter appears to be the first born son, so according to custom Colman's father was possibly named "Peter". In some cases the mother is recorded as "Bridget McDonagh".
The sponsors for those baptisms: were Thomas Holleran and Margaret Holleran, Patrick Holleran and Margaret Holleran, John Holleran and Mary Joyce, Thomas Joyce and Barbara Joyce, Peter McDonagh and Barbara McDonagh.
Those records can be accessed at www.nationalarchives.ie - Catholic Records, Ireland. or Google Catholic Records Ireland/ Kilcummin Diocese of Tuam.

Due to the number of "McDonough's/McDonagh in the Barony of Moycullen which covers Kilcummin and Killannin Civil Parishes care needs to be taken to identify the correct entry which relates to their respective family.

McCoy
