Hello, My great-great grandmother was named Catherine BURKE. She was born ca 1834 in Ireland. She immgrated to the USA (to Schuylkill County,PA) where she married Andrew CARROLL ( possibly married in Tamaqua,PA, towards 1853-1854)There could be a link to county Mayo because there were several BURKE lines in the vicinities of Catherine's town of Shenandoah, PA. After the passing of Andrew CARROLL ( deceased after 1880), Catherine followed her youngest children to Chicago,ILL. Catherine passed away in Chicago,ILL on the 3rd of April,1904. I would be happy to hear from anyone who may be working on this family or who may have a clue how to find my ancestor. Many thanks, Barbara CARROLL

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Does Catherine's 1904 death record show her parents names? I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and there were two Catherine Burke baptismal records in 1834 in Co. Mayo. There were other records in the years around 1834. Also, many Co. Mayo parishes do not have records back to 1834. Burkes usually are found in Co. Galway so we would need to check there also if you find the parents names.

Hello Roger,Thank you so much for your reply. One of my friends found Catherine Burke Carroll's death notice in a Pennsylvania newspaper. But unfortunately, there is no mention of her parent's name. I will continue to try through Pennsylvanian sources if I can scratch out any links to Burke families. It is interesting to note that the surname Burke is common in Galway. I'll keep hope in any case. Thanks again and have a wonderful day. Barbara Carroll
