  • Daniel was my Great grandfather

The 1861 Canadian Census says Daniel could not read or write.
It records his age as 28 which means he would have been born in 1833.
His wife Biddy (Bridget) age recorded as 26 which means she was born in 1835.
Eldest son John recorded as age 3 which would mean he was born in 1858 the year after the Montreal Marriage record
It also records the next eldest son Michael

The 1871 Canadian Census says Daniel could not read or write.
It records his age as 40 which means he would have been born in 1831.
His wife Bridget's age recorded as 35 which means she was born in 1836.
Eldest son son son recorded as age 13 which would mean he was born in 1858 the year after the Montreal Marriage
The record also records the next 7 sons. My grabdfather had not been born at this time.

The 1881 Canadian census indicates that Daniel was born in 1836. All of the sons were listed including my grandfather.

The 1891 Canadian Census shows Daniels age as 56 means he was born in 1835.

The 1901 Canadian census says Daniel was Born Aug 20, 1832 in Ireland and that he had arrived in Canada in 1856.
He was living with two of his sons.
    Bridget has died in 1900

All 3 of these records show my Great Grandparents Dan and Bridget as well as my father's uncles. The difference in birth dates (1831, 1832, 1833, 1836 and 1836) could be beacause Daniel was Illiterate or the census taker was. But, It could also be the date when the census was taken possibly at different times of the year which might skew the age by a year.
