My ancestors by the above names hailed from somewhere in Mayo. Ancestry DNA says that there is a Achill connection somewhere but I'm not sure it's thru the Connellys. Rodger was born in 1794 and Rose was born in 1819. They left for America possibly around 1830 as their children were all born in the US starting in 1835. Their children's names in birth order were Mary, John,Ann, Hugh, Katherine, Rose, Patrick and Anthony.  "Rodger" is how his name is spelled on his grave.

  • Hi Deb,

I'm afraid Rodger & the Connellys are an elusive lot!

They are not in the 1821 Irish Census in Mayo. There are 14 in the Tithe Applotments (Mayo 1833 - 34) but none in Achill! There were a couple of Rodger Conellys in Sligo - parish Ahamlish Townland Ketticane

I tried ww.rootsireland.ie/ & my cd Memorials of the Dead Galway & Mayo but no luck there

The R C baptisms at the National Library website for Achill only start in 1819; were they RC? C of I only start 1854!

Closest match I got was this one but no d in Roger, 5 years late & wrong county!!
