I'm looking for the Maguire Family from Killinagh.  I believe that Honor Maguire married Philip McGovern at St Patrick's Killinagh in May 1881 and I'd like to try to locate the names of Honor's parents and siblings and where they might have lived.  Thank you.  Carol

    Hi Snowycl,

I will see can I help you.

I have looked at Roots Ireland but alas the information relating to their parents is not there.. I am guessing this is them in 1901 census http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Cavan/Dunmakeever/Carn…,

I then looked up 1911 Census & they were still living there, this is the entry

Mc Govern Philip 78 Male Head of Family Roman Catholic

Mc Govern Honor 67 Female Wife Roman Catholic

Mc Govern Patrick 35 Male Son Roman Catholic

Sheridan Mary 17 Female Niece Roman Catholic  I also searched for Mary Sheridan, but none of her parents or sponsors gave me confidence as to which fmilyshe belonged to as there were quite a few born around the same year.

It also stated that they had 5 children and that they were still living, that means one was missing in 1901, but it also stated that they were married 41 years, which means that they were married in 1871, so this may not be their family.

I looked for a death for Honor but could not find any with a husband Phil between their and 1901 nor for him either.  What I was hoping for some type of a naming pattern or a repeat of names as sponsors that would bring me back to her siblings and her parents.  I live along way from this area so I dont know the townlands or have a person that I can refer anything to.

So I am sorry that I have been unable to solve your mystery, but using my train of thoughts, I hope I have given you some direction.  Killinagh is very close to the border with Co. Fermanagh, so it is possible that they may have lived there as marriages usually took place in the bride's parish.

Perhaps you have some more information that may give me some more clues.

    Regards Carmel

  • Hello Carmel

Thank you for the reply and sorry it has taken me so long to find it.  I didn't get a notification that there had been a reply.

The Philip and Honor you mention is not the correct couple.  I have the 1901 and 1911 Census information so I know that they were living in Mullinawinna, Holywell, Fermanagh and they had 7 daughters and one son (Michael).  One of their daughters was my Grandmother.  I'm trying to find Philip and Honor's parents as I'm pretty certain that I have their marriage at St Patricks, Killinagh on 16 May 1881.  The marriage is listed as taking place, but no notification was sent for official records.  All I have is the page from the Church record.  Philip and Honor list their birthplace as Cavan for both Census years.  Philip died in 1921 and Honor died in 1930, both in Fermanagh.  Honor was known as Anne or Annie so her name on the death information is Anne with her son, Michael, as the informant.

I will do some research into the births and baptisms you have noted above so thank you so much for looking for the information for me.  For now, I'll keep searching from the other side of the world.....Australia.

    Kind regards

    Carol

I am a dna match on Ancestry, through their daughter Mary Margaret, with both Kate and Anne Kelly.

So... we must be related too! How?
