Still searching for Peter Hogan and father Simon Hogan. Peter was born abt. 1825 and immigrated to US abt. 1850s, locating first in New Lexington, Ohio, then Illinois to Minnesota in 1860s where he died in 1871.The US census lists a Christopher and Martin Hogan who perhaps were brothers or cousing of Peter. So far my searches have lead to no concrete information on Peter's parents or possible siblings. Peter was married to Julia Farrell, also of Ireland and she probably lived close by. Any help in finding out more about Simon (who most likely died in Tipperary, his wife or other children would be greatly appreciated as well as any infromation on Peter's birth, baptism (Catholic), etc. Mary

Hi Margot,
I saw a document on your site and copied it but am not sure of the source. I was unable to copy it as an attachment but can tell you about it. It was an alphabetical listing of cemetery stones (I think) erected by relatives. I must have clicked on the H's and it was on page 10 no. 108 at the very bottom. This is what it said:
Erected by Con Hogan in memory of his father Simon Hogan who died May 12, 1864, aged 91 years. Also his mother, Mary Hogan, alias Ryan who died January 23, 1864 aged 82 years and his brothers, Patt (should be Peter, my Great Grandfather) and Christopher Hogan who died in America. May they rest in peace. At the bottom of the page is Tipperary County Council
I would love to find out more about Con ( Conrad?) as well as Simon and Mary (my Great Great Grandparents. Where is the graveyard, is it connected to a church, what townland? any other relatives nearby either Ryan or Hogan? Can you help me? Also, how do I attach a document to the message board?
Thank you,
Mary

Hi Mary,

Sorry, where did you see it. I don't have an actual site, poss Ancestry.
I have had a quick look and can't seem to match what you have seen.I will look through all the photo's I have.
I search for lots of sites and take loads of photo's and send them on to people.I did look for a tree with the names you mentioned there is one and it's Private, so I can't see anything.
I maybe a while but I will get back to you.

Attached Files
Hi Margot,
I found the gravestone inscriptions on the Tipperary Studies website and hopefully the files are attached. Where can I search from here to find more information about Simon, Mary and Peter and Christopher's families?

Ok Mary, I remember now.
I think one of the records showed Samuel, incorrect, it was Simon on the original record.
It may take me a bit of time but I will come back to you, after 6 months of doing a search, if I don't hear anything I dump the findings, sorry.

Hi Margot,
I found them on Ancestry. I made a mistake about Martin. There was not Martin in the US. I have a Martin on my family tree but not Hogan. CHristopher lived in Ohio but I am not sure what happened to him after that. My Great Grandpa moved on to Minnesota. Thank You for helping me.

Simon was born in 1773 according to the documents I sent. His son Peter was born in 1825. Simon was 52 years old. Mary was 43. Peter must have been one of the youngest considering his parents' ages.

Hi Mary,
This is the Aglishcloghane that is mentioned on the headstone. If you click in about 3 times on the map you will see the cross for the Church.
https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/irl/TIP/AglishcloghaneOn the Birth record I sent earlier for Peter, it says the address was Milford.
This is the map for the townland Milford
https://www.townlands.ie/tipperary/lower-ormond/aglishcloghane/aglishcloghane/milford/This is Simon Hogan in the Tithe records. (These are from 1823 to 1837 usually the year shows)
http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/reels/tab//004625731/004625731_00365.pdfMary Hogan died aged 81 on the 23 Jan 1865, she was a widow. Death records before 1864 are hard to find.
Her son Cornelius was present at the death in Ballyspillane.Cornelius' death
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1881/06449/4853336.pdfIn 1901 and 1911 the Hogan families were still in the same area.
I have searchedd the Parish books and can't see any births for Christopher, there again some books are from 1821.

Thank you, Margot, for the information. I have added Cornelius to my tree. There were probably older children but it sounds like there are few records of births before 1821. Is there a way to find out about other children of Mary and Simon? Also, is it possible that Simon moved from Milford to Balleyspillane or is Milford where they would have to go for a baptism? Is Balleyspillane still a town?
I would like to find out more about Simon's parents as well as Mary Ryan's parents. Any suggestions?
Peter Hogan married Julia (Judith) Farrell who was born in Ireland. They came to the USA unmarried but on the same ship. Her parents were James Farrell and Mary Delaney. I have information on them in the US but nothing that ties them back to Ireland except Judith's baptism. She was baptised on Nov. 7, 1825 in Currah Parish, Borrisokane. Would they have lived nearby Simon Hogan? Is Currah the name of a church or district? I would love to find out where Judith grew up and if it was near Simon and Mary Hogan. I am finding the civil parishes and catholic parishes confusing and also the names of the towns. Hope this all makes sense. I appreciate all your help!

Hi Mary,
I see Judith's birth in 1825............Curragh, these are townlands, in the Parish of Borrisokane.
This is the map....when you open the link, zoom out on the " - " 4 times, from Curragh to Ballyspilane it's about 40min. walk.
https://www.bing.com/maps?q=curagh++borrisokane&qs=n&form=QBRE&sp=-1&pq…Milford....from what I remember is an estate in Ballyspilane. If you search Milford House Borrsokane it's for sale, large house with cottages. That's where they must have lived.
This is from the Landed Estates
http://landedestates.ie/LandedEstates/jsp/property-show.jsp?id=4428Cornelius Hogan had a son Simon in 1860 in the same area, Con was married to Onny Hogan.
Their marriage was in 1857 her name is Honora Hogan. They married in Terryglass.I re-joined a site see below... for a month to get all my correct details, going by last Saturday's Tourist xchange rate, it works out to US$ = 32.50$, might be worth while joining for a month.

This does save time going through the church books. These records are from the Church books.I just found Peter Hogan's birth, in the rootsireland site, this is the one I mentioned earlier, it says Samuel but on the original document it says Simon.
