Hi Margot...My ancestor was John Holland. Ann Brierly comes on his marriage notice. they married in the Church of Ireland Roscrea 27 Aug 1851. Henry Brierly is down as her father. I have seen that Shrimpton Brierly at the same time roundabout also had a daughter called Anne.S. Henry and Shrimpton seem to share the running of the boot and shoe making shop. John Holland had enlisted in the 49th Regiment of Foot and was based at Roscrea. I got his papers from UK Royal Hospital Chelsea Regimental registers of Pensioners. This was 1839 to 1849. He served overseas. Just recently I have found Henry Brierly was a sergeant in the same regiment and his service overlapped at Roscrea with John for the last 3 years of Henry's service. He also was a Chelsea pensioner and his records are there Also there are earlier Brierlys who were professional soldiers.going back to the 1700s the same regiment I dont know how they link up.. The trade on enlisting at 18 is always Boot and shoemaker from Roscrea. so i can see how John Holland and Ann Brierly met. My Great grandad was one of their sons William. They ended up in Harpenden herts UK.after his service..Henry's sons were Frederick Henry William John and his daughter Sarah.. Ann ended up living with Sarah's family. Henry seems to be a popular name in the family. I have to look up birth dates with the names. I am a bit old and am not a professional researcher best wishes Rita

Hi After a bit more searching, Scrimpton Brierly was married to Dora Dolan, they married in 1840 in Roscrea.
They also had a daughter called Ann. on the marriage of Scrimpton it was entered as Crompton and was changed by a tree owner in Lancashire. But now I found that this tree owner has them as Father and Daughter!!!!
Just found, well this is task, Henry Brierly, a marriage for him in 1904, in Liverpool, he is 53 and a widower, he marries a Sarah Todd also a widow aged 47 maiden name Coff.
It says his fathers name in Scrimpton, so it has to be him.
Isn't it fun!
