Looking for information on the Hopkins family from Castlebar who moved to Liverpool and settled with their family. These are my 3rd great grandparents : Bartley (or Bartholomew) Hopkins whose son James Hopkins was born approx in 1811 in Catlebar. Unfortunately, dont have a date of birth for Bartley. They are both shown as labourers in Liverpool. Thank you Elaine Green

Interesting. My grandfather was from Castlebar and arrived in U.S. from Liverpool. Trying to find his documents. A cousin met with the Hopkins who still live in Castlebar. One was very old and receiving nursing from gov't worker. The other one denied he was related. He later found out many in Ireland are afraid people will stake claim to their land. I do not know why but we don't want their land, just a connection.
Would love to know more about the Hopkins family in Liverpool. James is a family name passed down to my parents generation. My great grandfather was Patrick Hopkins. This we know. Any information would be appreciated. I added a picture of my grandfather as a young man.
Sincerely,
Catherine

Hi Catherine
This is what I know for sure. My grandmother was Mary Ann Hopkins born in Liverpool on 11 Oct 1900 she was the only child of John Hopkins and Bridget Moran. John Hopkins was born in Liverpool on 7 May 1866 he married Bridget Moran on 30 Nov 1890 in Liverpool. His father was William Hopkins born in Liverpool on 31 Oct 1840. He married Mary Shruffen on 21 Nov 1864 in Liverpool. His Father was James born in Castlebar Ireland around 1811 according to the early census. He married Bridget Roach on 24 Jan 1840 in Liverpool (she was a widower previous married name was Dempsey).
According to the marriage banns his fathers name was Bartley Hopkins and his occupation was a Labourer but I don't have a date of birth. Would be good to know if there are any links between us. Best Wishes
Elaine

Hi Elaine. Feel free to contact me at chopkinsaz@yahoo.com. Will give you the link to the ancestry page. Will need your emailA brother, some cousins and my sister have completed the dna test. And I would like to give you access to our family tree to see if we match up somewhere. So much fun. I do know we come from a very long line of hard working people. I would like to get an Irish passport. Must find my grandfathers birth records to complete my request. Going to look in the New York marriage records for their marriage. My dad's mom died when he was 7 from leukemia. Sad time for sure for my dad. Grandfather brought 2 cousins over from Ireland to help him take care of the three boys. They were precious to us all.
Best regards,
Catherine
