They had three children: Martin, Catherine, born on February 1829, Oughterard, Galway, Ireland. No more information on Martin & Catherine.
Michael born February 24, 1833, Oughterard, Galway, Ireland. Michael married Mary Mulkerrin around 1854 in Galway. Michael died in 1909, in Innishbarra, Lettermore, Galway, Ireland.
Michael & Mary's children: John, Thomas, Michael, Norah, Bridget, James, Sarah, Morgan.

The records for Oughterard RC parish go all the way back to 1808. I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find a baptismal record for John Cooney. As you indicated, he was born/baptized before records are available.
I also checked the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Kilcummon civil parish (which includes Oughterard) and there were two Cooneys: Patrick and Edward both living in Canrawer West townland. Either John was deceased or he was a labourer on another farm.
