  • LC,

If your George was single and aged 19 in 1831, then he’s unlikely to be the George in Drumnicannon (Drumnacanon) in the 1831 census. That George had a household of 10 people then and so was likely to be married and in his 30s or 40s. (And he appears to have still been in Ireland in Griffiths Valuation for 1858. So presumably not the same man who emigrated in 1847).

If you search the 1831 census for Londonderry using “Crock*” as your criterion you’ll get a modest number of families in just 6 parishes. One was Presbyterian but all the others appear to have been Church of Ireland. You could get a researcher to go through those church records in PRONI and look for your family for you. Not too big a task.

I’d be cautious about what to expect from a marriage record in 1834 or thereabouts. Usually all you get are the couples names, the date and their 2 witnesses. Only rarely do you get fathers names, townlands or occupations. However if you find the children's baptisms you should know if it is the right family or not.

  • Elwyn, thank you!

Unfortunately, can only base birth (age) on obituary which states 'at the ripe age of 81 years and 7 months'; when he died  1894.

And, have not found births of the daughters in Ireland - those who I do have birth dates are from their obituaries /death records here in Canada.

Shall re-check the 1831 census as you suggested + the PRONI link which you provided.

True, my expectation of finding his parents on the marriage record may be a stretch!

    Regards,

    Lynn
