Hi,
I am looking for information about my 2nd great grandfather's family. I think his parents were John Ryan (1823) or Lawrence Ryan (1823-?) and Catherine Schevers (1828-?), but I am trying to confirm this. My 2nd GGF is John Morrisey Ryan (b. 1848 Clonmel or Cornwall, Tipperary, Ireland, d. 1907 Flemingsburg, KY, USA). He married Mary Keating (b. 1849 county Clonmel, Tipperary, Ireland, d. 1906 Flemingsburg KY) .

I am also looking for information about his wife, Mary Keating (b. 1849 county Clonmel, Tipperary, Ireland, d. 1906 Flemingsburg KY, USA). I think her father was James Keating, but I am trying to figure out who her parents were.

John and Mary came to the United States in 1865, settling in Fleming, Flemingsburg, KY, USA. Their children are James Henry Ryan (1866-1901), Mary Ellen Ryan (1867-1920), Nannie Cecelia Ryan (1869-1937), Kathryn Agnes "Katie" Ryan (1871-1940), Thomas Francis Ryan (1872-1913), Joseph F. Ryan (1874-1945), Edward William Ryan (1875-1901), John K Ryan (1877-1931), Elizabeth Mae Ryan (1879-1959), Raleigh Hart Ryan (1884-1947), William Ernest Ryan (1886-1908).

Thank you for any information!
Katy

  • Hi Katy,

    Sorry for the late reply.

I couldn't find a marriage of John or Lawrence to Catherine Schevers; closest to Schevers were Shanahan and Savage

No luck with Mary Keating with father James 1849 + - 01 years either I'm afraid

Surprisingly there are no Ryans or Keatings in Tipp in the 1851 Irish Census!

I don't know what sources you have used but the National Library has the R C registers free to search at registers.nli.ie/

There are baptisms and marriages for Clonmel St Mary's available but it's hard work going through them.

  • Hi,

Thank you for the information. I don't have a paid subscription to rootsIreland.ie, so I cannot access the marriage records. I will look at the RC registers using the link you provided. Since they have such common names I am having a hard time knowing if I am finding my relatives or others with the same name. Where would I find baptisms and marriages for Clonmel St Mary's? The Griffiths Valuation has 595 John Ryans. Any thoughts on where else I should look to narrow down the search?

  • Hi Katy,

The marriage record of John & Mary I posted last time was from rootsireland.

Clonmel St Mary's records are available on the nli RC site; simply search for Clonmel in the parish search box.

Only way to narrow down the 595 on Griffiths would be by address I guess

  • Dear Katy:

I can't help you, but hoping you can help me. I am wondering if you have heard of a James Ryan born about 1775 and married an Ellen Foley. They had a daughter born 1797 named Alice. Somehow she got the name Neville. I don't know if she was adopted or what. Thanks Rich
