Hello all, my Great Grandmother Margaret McGann sailed to Liverpool UK prior to 1876. Her marriage certificate to my Great Grandfather Michael O'Connor, states that her father was Lawrence McGann from Galway. His birth would have been around 1835. I would like to know which parish he was from and trace any relatives. Could anyone help please? Thank you. Caroline

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and was not able to find a Lawrence McGann baptismal record around 1835 in Co. Galway. Also, did not find a Margaret McGann baptismal record with father Lawrence. I assume she was born 1855-1860? Likely their parish does not have records back to that time period. From the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listings, it appears that most of the McGanns were from the southeast part of Co. Galway. There were no Lawrences listed.
Do you have any other family information? Did Lawrence remain in Ireland?
You may want to add Margaret's story to our XO Chronicles site and possibly someone will see a connection.

Have you considered DNA testing?

Hi Roger, thank you so much for your reply. Yes, I searched roots Ireland too and have drawn a blank. I really don't know if Lawrence remained in Ireland. Her husband Michael O'Connor was born in Cork in 1854 to a father called John. Again, I don't know if the family remained in Ireland. Very little to go on and very frustrating.

I have an update, my McGann family were from Killtulagh. Any further information would be gratefully received

Caroline:
If Lawrence was from Kiltullagh parish Co. Galway, baptismal records for that parish start in 1844 which would mean there would be no record for someone born around 1835.
