This question might seem a bit strange, but I've been chasing this line for so long I'm beginning to look at anything I can find.
My 2x-great grandmother was Margaret Clarke, probably born around 1810. She married William Luther in 1829 in Borrisokane, Tipperary and they had 5 children between 1831 and 1841. After that, there is no certain record of anyone in the family until my great-grandmother, Catherine Luther, married my great-grandfather, Roderick Kelly, in Nepean, Ontario, Canada in the late 1850s.
In recent years, I discovered (through genealogy research and DNA) that I am related to a huge clan of Clarkes in Canada - all originating from a William Clarke (1793 Tipperary-1863 Nepean) who settled in Nepean, Ontario - just 5 lots away from my Kelly ancestors' farm. William is likely the father of Margaret Clarke.
Following that, I discovered several DNA matches with the descendants of a Richard Henry Lewis (1842 Wisconsin USA - 1917 Wyoming USA. Richard's parents were William Lewis and Margaret Clarke. Although the timing seemed quite close, the possibility that Margaret Clarke Lewis and Margaret Clarke Luther were the same woman was raised. Margaret Clarke Lewis apparently was widowed in Ireland, emigrated to Canada, and thence to Wisconsin - marrying William Lewis at some unknown place and time.
Further, there are no records for Richard Henry Lewis' birth in Wisconsin and no records for marriage or death for William Lewis or Margaret Clarke Lewis in Wisconsin or Canada.
William Lewis is said to have been born in Tipperary and his father, also William Lewis, was born in Spain. This information sent me on searches for birth or marriage records for William Lewis, born in Tipperary between 1790 and 1810; for emigration records from Ireland to Canada or from Ireland to the USA for a William Lewis; for burial records for a William Lewis, residing in Tipperary but born in Spain; for records of a William Spain (since I found mention that emigrants from Spain to Ireland sometimes adopted this name); and, finally, for records of a William Luis in Ireland. Nothing yielded a definitive answer. These people simply refuse to be found.
Before I declare this an impermeable brick wall, I thought I'd try this site (which has helped me immensely in the past). I'm attaching the biography of Richard Henry Lewis which appeared in "Progressive Men of Wyoming" by A.W. Bowen, published in 1903.
If anyone can direct me to this elusive Lewis family or suggest a new direction, I'd be very grateful.
Thank you in advance!

My Marion Crowe it seems may have been born in Spain or Gibraltar.
I am on a similar brick wall. She was married in Killaloe Diocese. I am trying to find a spanish connection as well.
Best wishes,

Hi Frances, I am not relted to you or any of the other names mentioned, I just try to help.
This link is the Parish book for Catherine Luther.
Born 27th and Baptised on the 28th September 1833. Right hand page.

It took a bit for finding, I wanted to see this record to confirm the entry in the Tithe records (Taxes/rents paid 1823 to 1837)
This record shows a Joseph Luther in a place called Crotta, Borrisokane. This area is on the Cloughjordan Road to the right of Borrisokane.

Hi B Barber,
Killaloe Diocese, it is also a town in Clounty Clare, this is across the river from Ballina in County Tipperary.
What year did Marion marry?
What was her married name?

Margot, thanks for the research! The Catherine Luther you found in Borrisokane is my great-grandmother. I have pretty well documented (what there is) on that family - except there is nothing conclusive beyond that. They just vanish.
The information on Guillermo Luis is interesting. Supposedly, the William Lewis who married Margaret Clarke was born in Ireland. His father, also William Lewis, was born in Spain, so it would have been earlier than 1816 (probably 1790s). But it is a lead worth pursuing. When families moved around, they often gave incorrect dates or places of birth - just to make our work more difficult!
Thanks, again.

Margot, I looked up the name Segundo and all it means is "born second." So, possibly this is another William Lewis also.

https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…
She married Daniel Malone in 1849. I have the records. I will look at them again.and see.
I will add more info soon.
thanks so much for responding.

Hi Frances, Yes, I looked up the meaning of Segundo as well.
I know a little girl with the name Bo, it’s Irish for cow!
It was when I read this line in your post...................
for burial records for a William Lewis, residing in Tipperary but born in Spain
That's why I went to look in Spanish records.
Like I said, it may not be him.
MargotHi MilkMaid or B Barber,
You say............
Can we start a new thread on my Mary Anne Crowe post? I have some of her history on the post.
I am not related to you or your family I just try to help.https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-data...
After reading this link, she wasn't Marion until in the USA and wasn't born in Spain...............as you have her birth in County Clare.also, you say………………………..
It relates to her father being an officer in the English army and the grandson of the Duke of Ormond.
You should be able to get all this info on line, you would need which number Earl the granfather is. Going by the years could be from 15th 16th or 17th Earl.
Then trace the down. Like I said a lot of digging.

The fellow who found her marriage record and children's baptisms said that it was common for a Mary Ann to be Marion in the US. The first census she is mentioned in says Mary A. Malone.
I have other documents which mention her birth as Spain, Gibraltar and France listed variously on censuses and other documents of her children.
I did learn that Ireland kept no records of the people who left. So I will look at immigration records here in US.
I have searched all I can on the Duke of Ormond side. Someone said I must look at records kept in Austria, as Ireland wouldn't have them.
Any suggestions regarding the Spanish birth?

Hi,
As Ireland was part of Britain until 1948, records are held in Kew.
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/
Some on line, if you search the site it will tell you where the records are.
Ancestry WorldWide has records via the National Archives.
I am not a member now, maybe worth joing for a month.
Ship and air records are listed in Ancestry to the USA and other countries.family search does have 18.1 million Spanish birth records.
This is an informative site
