Regarding Walter, can you locate him in the USA 1910 or 1920 censuses and see where he was born? That would clarify the USA or Ireland question.

We are going to have a tough time with Ellen Hanrahan. We would need her year of birth and parents names to see if a record is available. The subscription site Roots Ireland has over 50 Ellen Hanrahan baptismal/birth records and not all the Tipperary RC parishes are in their data base.

Thanks for your replies. I have some additional information on my distant cousin's family, but still can't quite figure out how my great grandfather fits into the puzzle. Ellen Hanrahan was born in 1866. Her brother Patrick was born in 1868. Her sister Margaret was born in 1871. Not sure when her sister Bridget was born. The parents were JamesJamesahan and Alice Dooley married 3/2/1858.

I found the records.. Looks like they lived in Ballydrehid townland in Killardy civil parish in South Tipperary.

The first two records are baptismal records from Roots Ireland and the last two are civil birth records from the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie

Thanks for your kind comments. I have attached two maps from Killardy parish , one shows the holding the Hanrahans had in c1853 at Ballydrihid at Griffiths Valuations  and the other shows the two Hanrahan holdings at the adjoining townland ar Tooreen in c.1853.

The name Killaldry is a corruption of the old Irish name  Cill Ard Ri. which means the Church of The High King. There is a river crossing across the  River Suir and on the other side the Kings of Munster resided at Knockgraffon and it is said that one of these was buried in Kilardry.This graveyard still serves that area and is maintained to a very high standard. One of the people buried there is Sir William Butler who is credited  with establishing the 'Mounties' police force in Canada. Hopefully the poems will remind you of the nostalgia your ancestors experienced when they first emigrated.
