Hello, We are looking for the family of Joseph Christopher Molloy. Born 1910 in Galway, came to America as a stowaway. Mother says he had quite a few siblings.  One was perhaps Katherine, and she became a nun in England? We'd really like to get in touch with the family. Joseph was one of the oldest children, and his daughter is 76, so it is very likely that she has some 1st cousins that she's never met.

Parents are Patrick Molloy (b.1878 d. 1957) and Frances O'Loughlin (b. 1886 d. 1920)

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

From the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie  here is Joseph's 1910 civil birth record  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…;   The family was living on Foster St. in Galway town and here they are in the 1911 census  http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Galway/Galway_East__Ur…

The father worked for the railroad and the two children born right before Joseph were born in Co. Roscommon so they likely moved around for his work.

Currently we only have images of birth records up thru 1916. I can see records for Patrick 1912 Thomas 1913 James 1916

They were living on St. Bridget's Terrace in 1916  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…

I looked for a possible death record in 1957 but I did not see a record which looked like your Patrick Molloy. There was a death registered in Galway but the deceased was actually from Lougrea Co. Galway.

Unfortunately, due to our privacy rules, we are unable to look for living individuals.

  • Nessa,

My mah, today, discovered my grandfather's (Edward Molloy) birth certificate, and unless this were to be a series of bizarre coincidences, I believe we are first cousins once removed, and that your mother and my mother Rita are first cousins. We were very much aware that we had lost relatives in the US and are thrilled that we may at last be reunited.

On Edward's certificate, his parents are listed as Patrick Molloy, signal man, and Frances (Fanny) Molloy, nee O'Loughlin. The address listed is St. Bridget's Terrace. The signee is one Mr. Lydon (although I see he is ubiquitous). All of the above match the information posted by Roger.

My great-aunt Kathleen was a nun in England, which is where my grandfather and his wife Evelyn (nee Byrne) moved. My mah, born and raised in Birmingham, married an Italian man, moved back home to Dublin and had myself and my brother.

Edward had two older brothers who moved to the US, one of whom presumably being your grandfather.

The only things which don't seem to check out are the dates of death for Patrick and Fanny, the former echoing Roger's findings. My mother recalled that Patrick had died sometime in the late 1960s, and as my grandfather was born in 1921, Fanny couldn't have died no later than that. Although she does believe that Fanny wasn't very old when she died.

I eagerly await your response. In the meantime, feel free to add me on Facebook or drop me an e-mail: al.molloy@clio.com

P.S. Thanks a million Roger for the follow-up. I wouldn't have been able to know for sure if it weren't for you findings.
