  • Dear HCarew:  Many thanks for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board.  As your time period is pre-1800, records can be extremely difficult or even rare for ancestor research.  However, there are a few sources or references that you might find helpful:  The Waterford County Museum has a very good website with a lof of very informative links to historical journals, events and places of historical interest in the county,  Eddie Cantwell is a member of their staff and he is noted as being extremely knowledgeable about tracing Waterford ancestors.  The link is below:  http://www.waterfordmuseum.ie/exhibit/web

You might also take a look at the website that discusses Convict voyages to the Caribbean, if you believe that James was a convict.

You might also consider creating an Ancestor profile about James Carew for the XO Chronicles feature which is located at the top of this page.  Many of these profiles are read by our members and they attract the attention of others who may be researching the same family.

If you need further information, please let us know.

    Kind regards,

    Jane

  • Ms. Jane Ryan,

Thanks for your reply...and for your suggestions. Not sure what status James had  when he sailed from Waterford. He may have been English as the St. George started out in England. I did DNA testing with Familytree and discovered that I linked to Breassal-Breac and the family may have come to Ireland w/Strongbow in the 12th century. Not a whole lot of documentary evidence. Again, thank-you for the suggestions and I'll keep looking...
