Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Civil birth registation in Ireland started in 1864 so prior to that year we have to rely on available church records. You did not mention religious denomination but I will assume they were RC. Unfortunately, the records for Clonfert/Eyrecourt/Donanaghta parish start very late in the 1880s so no record would be available for James Jennings.
I also checked the Tithe records and did not see a Smith Jennings record. I also checked the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listings for Donanaghta and Clonfert civil parishes and did not see a Jennings record.
You may want to add James' story to our XO Chronicles site and possibly someone will see a connection. https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…
Have you considered DNA testing?

Mike:
Regarding Annie Duggan: I checked the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie and there were nine Anne Duggan/Doogan civil birth records in 1874. Below is the only one with a May birthday. However, I would not presume that this is the correct record without other confirming evidence such as her parents names. Many times the year and month are incorrect on sources.
