Hi to all
I have done some research and also paid for some searches but am now looking for my grandparents graves .
There names were Joseph Dunne and Mary Kate Dunne and they lived in the Rahugh parish. They had 6 or 7 children , Michael ,Anne ,Lizzie, Nellie ,Mary and Charles are the names I remember.Charles was my father. They lived on the Offaly West Meath border and as a child I remember being driven by my Uncle Michael to the family home that at that time was lived in by Mathew and Ann Boland . I remember also that Ann had a daughter called Ann who was a good musician (accordian)
Just inside the Offaly border my Aunt Mary lived she had a son known as John Joe who was a clay pigeon shooter . I do have some more information but would be gratefull if anyone could help me .

Thank You
Joseph Dunne

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Joseph and Mary Kate Wallace were married in January 1910.

Their first child, Michael, was born April 14, 1910

The 1911 census shows them in Rahugh townland within Rahugh civil parish.

I can find civil birth records for Ellen, Anne, Mary and Elizabeth, however, the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie only has birth record images up to 1916 (because of the 100 year rule). The 1917 records should be added later this year. Your father was likely born post-1916.

Regarding the graves for your grandparents, I did not find the civil death records although I did not go thru all the Mary Dunne records since there were 66 records in the Tullamore registration district.

There is a church in Rahugh called St. Hugh's which I believe is a subordinate church to St. James in Kilbeggan. I would contact St. James and see if they can assist you.  http://www.kilbegganparish.ie/

  • Hello Roger ,thank you for your reply and useful information . I know my uncle ,the oldest was on the 1911 census and have a copy of my fathers death certificate . Could you tell me how I could search through the 66 Mary Dunnes as I may then be able to locate her date of death if it mentions she was the mother of 4 daughters and 2 sons which would then help me contact cemetries or churches.

Once again Thank you for your swift reply an, the information and time you have spent

    Regards Joe

Go to www.irishgenealogy.ie (free site) and hit the Civil Records TAB. You will have to go thru a few screens to identify yourself. You will then see a search box to the left. You want to search for Mary Dunne deaths in the Tullamore registration district. I chose to search starting 1920 and you will get all deaths thru 1966. The Irish government has a 50 year rule for publising death info for privacy reasons. So if Mary Kate died after 1966, the record will not be available.

I did have more time tonight and went thru some of the records. I did find one record in 1940 which may be the record you are looking for. Keep in mind, a death record only shows when, where, the cause of death, the informants name and relationship of the informant to the deceased. It does not list children.

Let me know if you have questions.

    Thank you Roger
I have a death record for Joseph Dunne as 6th Feb 1951 age 73 and his death was reported by his widow Mary .which I have attached along with the company report I have used so far to try and trace where they may be buried. I sadly lost touch with my family and cannot remember ever meeting my grandparents I am 60 and was born in 1958 so it is possible as an infant I saw them but as far as I can recollect visiting the area as a child I never saw them so would like to find their graves and pay my respects when I am next in Ireland . I believe some of my cousins etc may still live  in the area.

Once again let me thank you for your time and help and will look through the links you have sent.

    Regards Joe
