I am seeking information on Michael Dillon, born 27 Sep 1811, baptized 1 Oct 1811, in Loughrea, Galway. Parents were Cornelius Dillon and Catherine Quin, married in Loughrea in 1810. I found this information on rootsireland.ie. Several siblings were also listed.
Does anyone have any further information on Michael Dillon or his parents or siblings?

Hello Susan,
My name is Clare Horgan I am a volunteer for the Claregalway area in Co. Galway. I found what you found out, 6 silblings. Loughrea is lucky as St. Brendan's have records that go back that far. Few places have can go back that far.
I also found a widow Dillion in Moyleen townland, Loughrea Parish in 1828, which is just outside the town in the Tithes Applotments http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie
In the Griffith Valuation: A Patrick Dillon is in Loughrea town: DUNKELLIN STREET (NORTH EAST END) in the 1850's. Patrick is a name of a son of theres but I can't collect? There was a Thomas too in Cabbage Lane but I can't find a sons name of Thomas for Cornelius and Catherine.
There are no Dillons in Moyleen in the Griffith's in the 1850's but there mare Quinns so it is possible they could be related through Catherine.
See the link below to townlands.ie, which is very helpful to find out information on all townlands in Ireland.

If you wish to contact me for help and guidance, I would be only delighted to help.

Clare, thank you so much for your quick response! I am not sure this Michael Dillon is my great-grandfather, although his obituary in Rockland, Brown County, Wisconsin, in 1898 says that he was born on 27 Sep 1811 - possibly in County Carlow or Kilkenny. He had a brother, Patrick, who was possibly a few years older. Both brothers married women from Old Leighlin, Leighlinbridge, Carlow. My grandfather, Thomas Dillon, was born in Paulstown, Kilkenny, in 1844. Michael was a stonemason who worked on the repair of the Erie Canal in New York before moving on to Wisconsin to farm. I have not found any records for either Michael or Patrick Dillon, born 1809-1811, in Carlow or Kilkenny, which is why I widened my search. I will keep looking. Thank you again for your help with this Michael Dillon in Galway!

Hello Susan,
Thanks for letting me know. Search on https://www.townlands.ie/ for the places you find. It might help you. I am afraid that area is not my expertise,
Depending on the area there may not be any baptismal records for Michael and Patrick as they do not go back that far in many areas.
if you need help IrelandXO could link you up with someone closer to that area. Let me know and I will find someone for you.
Best of Luck, in your search. Clare
