Searching for family of Michael Ryan. Born 1822, Thurles Ireland

PS. Some of the Ancestral names are Ryan , Gifford ( Gafford), MacDonald, McInnis,Gallant, MacEachern, Beaton, 

PSS. Jane gifford father was Thomas Gifford born 1787 England. Later in a 1871 census of Plaister Cove, Nova Scotia Can.. He is living with Michael , Jane and family. He was 84 at the time. Amazing.

I have one Ryan surname so far in my Family Tree. Her name was Johanna (Joan) Ryan born about 1800 based on when she started having children. I have very little info on her other than she was from Tipperary county. Her husband was Michael Dwyer also from Tipperary. It seems likely that their children were born in parish of Bansha & Kilmoyler and were named  Margaret 'Peggy' Keating (born Dwyer) c1821, Joan 'Johanna' Nugent (born Dwyer) c 1823, Michael Dwyer c1827, John Dwyer c 1827 & Bridget Dwyer 1831.

The Michael Dwyer born in 1827 and his brother John emigrated to Australia leaving England 1849 and arriving 1850 aboard the Sea Queen. John is my Great-Great-Grandfather.

Your Michael Ryan was born in 1822 in Thurles about 32km NE of Bansha. So unless the family moved around, he may not be closely related to my Johanna Ryan. Just a long-shot. But it would be nice to get a link as all my Irish heritage seems so difficult to research.

I am very pleased to hear from you. Where do you live? I believe your Grandfather Jack was from PEI. My cousin Bobby who just passed is a few years ilder than me. When I was young and lived in Port Hawkesbury Bobby would often come over for a visit and was very kind to us kids. He was so handsome too. Our family had moved away from there many years ago so I haven't been in touch with him too much .Although my Mom has always kept up with the family when ever she was near. I did get to see Bobby 2 years ago when we had a Ryan family reunion. His sisters Joan and Marion are the only ones left of that family and have been in touch for a few visits in the past two years.They live in Port Hawkesbury.

I have been doing alot of work on my family tree. it is interesting . I am always hoping to make contact inside of relatives from Ireland. Mt Sister Nancy and I Visited Ireland a few years ago and just loved it. We did a bus tour we were near Tipperary, Limerick but not close enough. I would love to go back some day. My g-g grandmother was Johanna Ryan  who married James Young in 1849. Both from Borisoleigh in Tipperary. They arrived at Sydney NSW in 1853 on the Neptune and settled at Daylesford. Had a son James Sydney Neptune Young 1853. Many descendants are around Melbourne Australia Any would be welcome. cheers rod jeffery

I have Ryans from Tipperary in my tree. Thomas Ryan (1770-1864) married Mary Small (no information). They probably came from Portroe, Tipperary as there are a lot of Ryans and Smalls in that area. They ran pubs. Their daughter Harriet Ryan (1811-1885) is my 3xggm. Harriet married Anthony Murray (1805-1875) He came from Castletown, Tipperary. Anthony's parents are Henry Murray (1770) and Julia McLoughlin (no information). Harriet and Anthony came to Australia with a few of their children who were born in Ireland. They had a few more after arriving. They ran pubs in country Victoria. They eventually settled in Ballarat, Victoria, australia where they are both buried. I have no information about any other siblings for Harriet so can't report whether there were any males who would have carried on the Ryan surname.

Good morning all!

I too have Ryans from Thurles, Tipperary. I have a Johanna Ryan, b. 1814 in Cashel and Emly.

 The only Michael I have so far was born in 1769, m. Bridget Sheridan. His sons were Thomas and James; James was born in Cappawhite in 1815, m. Mary Doyle in Moneytucker Wexford; children Anne, Mary, Bridget, Thomas, and John were born in Wexford in the 1850's,Bridget,Thomas, and Mary went to England; John went to America around 1861, settling in Martin's Ferry, Ohio. John is my 4x grandfather. My mother's maiden name is Ryan. There is still at least one male carrying the Ryan name; my uncle Tom's son Patrick has a son, Connor.

I am hoping very much we can find a connection. I went to Ireland this summer trying to find my family with no luck.

 I have attached a copy of the Baptismal records for four children of Michael Dwyer and Joan Ryan at Killmoyler which adjoins the parish of Caher. The records date from 1820 so I was unable to find a marriage record for Michael and Joan in Kilmoyler. What is interesting about Kilmoyler is that decendents of the famiies that lived there in the early 1800s still reside there.

Hi!  chiming in on Ryans from Tipperary!  My 4g grandfather (I believe) was Patrick Ryan (@1779-1866)  I believe he was born in Tipperary (possibly Cashel)  he married Charity Stanley (who I believe was born iin Halifax NS).  I descend from their son Michael Ryan (@1804 Prospect NS-1872 ) he married Margaret Fenton (b @1815 Terrence Bay NS),  Their son Michael Ryan (jr) is my gg grandfather (B 1841 Lower Prospect NS-1913 Boston)  he married Mary Jane Coolen (1841 Lower Prospect NS-1931 Boston).  They emigrated to Boston 1884/1888.  I cannot find records of what happened to their oldest child Joseph Ryan (b 1861 Prospect NS).  I have seen records of a Joseph Ryan in Port Hawksbury NS but unsure if this is the same Joseph Ryan.  I believe My Joseph Ryan went to Boston in 1884 (and had been there before)  All the rest of their children moved to Boston.  Wonder if we can all be connected someway, perhaps back in Tipperary.  Best Wishes... I don't know if my ancestor, Anne Mary O'Ryan is connected to any of the above. She was born in Cashel, Tipperary 11 May 1851. She was the daughter of Joseph O'Ryan and Catherine McCormick of Main Street, Cashel. Anne had a brother Joseph who remained in Cashel, and Frances who moved to Liverpool. There may be another brother (name unknown) and a sister Elizabeth who died in Cashel 1871).

Oral family history has Anne coming to Australia as a teenager in 1864 with her aunt and uncle (names unknown). They lived on the goldfields in Ballarat, Victoria for 3 years before Anne returned to Ireland. Anne then returned to Australia in her twenties, travelling on the "Kapunda" arriving in Townsville, Queensland on 17th November 1875. She met her future husband Tertius Martin Sherriff and they were married 17 months later in Townsville where they lived for the rest of their lives. Anne died in 1934.

Anne's niece, Lizzie O'Ryan (daughter of her brother, Frances) also came to Australia, and arrived in Townsville in 1902, and eventually moved north to Cairns where she died in 1957.

I have a Mary Ryan born March 13 1826 in Kilcommon Tipperary, parents John Ryan born 1801 in Tipperary, married Mary Roche on Jan 1 1803 in Tipperary. They came to US and lived in Woodbridge, NJ in 1860. John's father was Msrtin born about 1780 in Tipperary. He married a Julia and he died and was buried in Clonoulty, Tipperary on Jan 6, 1819.

Do you know which ship your ancestors came to Australia in 1854.

My Great Grandfather Stephen Ryan and Wife Johanna Gorman from Uppercurch Tipperary came out in 1854 on

the Europa arriving Adelaide January 1855 and went on to Victoria.

There were other Ryan's on the same ship.

A search for Ships Lists to Australia lists all passengers.

I have a Mary  Dwyer ( daughter of  WIllam Dwyer and Mary Lane of Donaskeigh) in my tree.

Mary was married to Richard Dalton and they had a son Patricck who was  baptized  in  Knockavilla  Parish  , Diocese of Cashel in  O otober 1854.  

From my reseach it appears that the baby Patrick's Father- Richard, had a mystery death soon after the baptism.

Mother of Patrick ,  Mary Dalton  (nee Dwyer) emigrated to Australia in 1858 where her Brother may have already settled.   She seems to return to her maiden name: Dwyer and remarried to a Patrick Gee in Brisbane.  Baby Patrick Dalton, remained in Tipp  with Aunts and grandmother untill he emigrated to Australia ( Ipswich Queensland)  with  Aunts and Uncles in 1862. He then joined his mother ( now Mary Gee) and many Dwyers in Ipswich Qld. I would love to know what happened to Richard Dalton which caused Mary Dalton ( nee Dwyer ) to leave her son and go under her maiden name to Australia.

Hello from Australia. My great grandmother's name was Julia Ryan. Her parents were Timothy Martin Ryan and Catherine (nee O'Brien) from Parish of Inch County Tipperary. Julia and her sisters (Kate, Johanna, ??) were sent passage paid to Australia by a cousin, John Butler, after the death of their parents, prob around 1850's? Julia married Charles Schnarndorff in 1872 in Sydney, NSW and died in about 1892. Thanks.

Just wondering if the Ryans from Thurles had a relation to Paddy Ryan b. 15 March 1851-Thurles. He was bare knuckle American heavy wieght  champion 1880. My 2x great uncle Patrick (Parker) Morris b. 14 March 1880 Earlshill, Co Tipperary was named after Paddy (Patrick). Paddy lost the title to John L Sullivan. (check wikipedia)
