Hello everyone,
I recently came across information about my 4th great grandfather his name was Patrick Hoban born circa 1799~ records show it was in St. Kemeys, Kilkenny, Ireland. His wife was Anna ( Lane ) Hoban born circa 1800~ record shows she was born in Roscommon ( do not know the parish or town she was born in). I assume at some point either Patricks family moved to Roscommon or he did when he became of age because majority of their children were all born in Roscommon including my 3rd great grandmother.
What i am looking for is any records or information about Patrick and his family/life in Kilkenny. Any assistance is greatly appreciated!
THanks,
Cory

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
The subscription site Roots Ireland has a number of Patrick Hoban baptismal records in the 1790s, 1801 etc. The 1799 record i shown below. Not sure about St. Kerneys coul be St. Canices in Kilkenny city. Since you don't know Patrick's parents names, there is no way to confirm any of the records.
Roots Ireland did not have the marriage record or any baptismal records for the Hoban children.

Roots Ireland did have a transcription of the baptismal info and the good news is that a townland was shown--Drumdowney. Drumdowney (there are actually two townlands side by side Drumdowney Lower and Drumdowney Upper) townland is in the civil parish of Rathpatrick in the southeast corner of Kilkenny near the Waterford border. Patrick had a younger brother Michael. See below.

Is there a reason why a family that would have been born in Kilkenny in the east of Ireland to move northwest to county Roscommon? Seems a bit bizarre for the times. Would there have been something that would have caused them to move?

Cory:
I can only speculate that there was a work opportunity that caused the family to migrate to the northwest.
