I'm trying to identify the parents of William Farrelly baptised 26 April 1815.  He married Judith Bellew in Kells, Meath and I'm also trying to identify the names of Judith's parents.  They had a daughter Anne Farrell born 1837.  Any help would be much appreciated.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The subscription site Roots Ireland has an April 26th 1815 baptism for William Farrelly. Parents Patt and Judy. No surname for Judy. The only Judith Bellew record I could locate was in 1795 which I assume is too early?

Dear Roger, thank you very much for your help, it's much appreciated.  It's possible isn't it that the Judith Bellew 1795 that you found could be the wife of Patt Farrelly, as she would have been 20 years of age when William was baptised?  I've since found a marriage between William Farrelly and Judith Bellew in Kells in 1830, but that would have meant William would only have been 15 years of age at the time of his marriage, which I don't think was allowed, or maybe the transcription of his baptism date was wrong. A strange coincidence though that William should have married someone with the same name as his mother.  It's all very confusing.  However, now to find a birth record for Patt Farrelly of which there are far too many! Once again, thank you for taking the time to help.  Lyho.

  • Once again, thank you very much.  Although I'm now doubting that this Judith Bellew is the wife of Patt Farrelly, it was a revelation to see the name of her mother, Mary Carralon.   My GGG Grandparents were Christopher and Ally Bellew, and Mary Carralon was sponsor to two of their children, Mary Bellew (1810) and George Bellew.  Later, in 1841, Mary Bellew became sponsor at the baptism of my GG Grandfather William Farrell (1841), whose mother was Esther Bellew another of Christopher and Ally's children. Going back to my doubt about Judith Bellew (1795) not being Patt Farrelly's wife.  This is because I found two marriages which could be Patt Farrelly's, one to Judy Allen in 1811 and another to Judy Manning in 1813.  Either of these would tie in with the birth details of William Farrelly in 1815 that you previously provided. There was also a birth record of a Thomas (1814) and Mary (1816)., and Mary had one of the same sponsors as William i.e. Cathy Brady.  My dilemma is that the baptism record of Thomas names Judy Allen as mother, but it's a different parish so I am not 100% confident that the Judy I'm seeking is definitely Judy Allen, as the record for William and Mary only records mothers first name.  Slowly it all begins to piece together with the help of people like your good self.  It's like a complicated jigsaw puzzle, but fascinating.  Thanks again. Lyho.
