Hi, I am reposting because with records available I have found more about my Clinton family. A death record from Mullingar dated 1887 for a John Clinton of Killynon has verified this person was my ancestor as his son Joseph was present at death. This enabled me to find a birth record for him in 1817 from Mayne giving his parents as John Clinton and Mary Moran. I cannot confirm his father's death the same year as no age was given or place.

However, John Clinton married Mary Daly at Taghmon RC church in 1837 and 5 chidlren were found born to them. The eldest child was Mary Clinton who married Thomas Higgins from Athlone in 1864. and had 7 children but in 1878 she died not long after the last child was born, sadly this child died the following year and an Anne Clinton was present at her death.

The same year Mary died her sister Bridget Clinton from Killynon, whose father is given as John Clinton labourere  married John Flanagan a widower from Rathconnell and Anne Clinton was a witness to her marriage. Then in 1884 Anne Clinton from Killynon aged 24 years residing with her father (no name given) also died and this gives her a date of birth around 1860 but no birth record has been found. Since the last Clinton record from Taghmon was 1849 and later records are unavailable I am assuming Anne belongs to my Clinton family. Her death was followed only a few years later by John Clinton, widower, labourer, from Killynon.

In the Griffith Valuation I have a Mary Clinton with a house and small garden renting at Killynan.from Reynella and I assume this is where my family lived. In 1889 a John Clinton and Elizabeth Murray are having children at Killynon firstly at Kllynan Pratt and later Killynan Cooke. I have no way to verify if this John is connected to my family but he died in 1932 still at Killynan Cooke and his death record gives him a date of birth around 1860 but census records differ and give a date of birth around 1854 leaving open the possibility he could be related.

Can anyone tell me if this family with their locality all being given as Killynon or Killynan were one and the same family and if anyone knows if any family is still around?

Looking forward to a reply.

John
