We're looking for any information about Austin Malley/O'Malley and Honor (nee O'Malley) from Mayo, I believe Kilmeena Parish? They immigrated to the USA around 1880 with their children (Katheryn, Owen, Annie, Edward and several others).

    Welcome back!

I'm finding two different families with parents Austin and Honor Malley. I  located an Edward 1865 and Catherine 1871 on Clare Islan but also found an Owen in 1874 in what is likely Carrowcally townland in Kilmeena parish. Which is correct?

  • Hello Roger,

I thought this would easier because I didn't think Honor was a common name - but I was quite wrong. Coupled with the fact that some of the Malley/O'Malley men married Mally/O'Malley women. This is the information we currently have, but given that some of the birth dates are somewhat questionable, I wonder if the children all listed below do not belong to the same Austin and Honor.

My husband and I will be in Westport for a week in July, and while we understand there is a very small chance of finding a distant relative, we were hoping to at least find the town they were from. We so appreciate all your help.

    Austin O'Malley (b. abt 1850 Clare Island, d. Nov 24, 1916 Chicago) married to: Honor O'Malley/nee O'Malley (b. abt 1852 Mayo, d. Jan 11, 1908 Chicago)

Immigrated to US between 1880 and 1882 with the following children:

    Kathryn O'Malley (b. unknown - d. Aug 19, 1963 Chicago) m. Craft

    Owen O'Malley (b. unknown - d. Jan 17, 1916 Chicago)

    Annie (M.?) O'Malley (b. abt. 1862 Mayo, Ireland - d. April 9, 1908 Chicago)   Married Edward J. O'Malley (b. abt 1861 Mayo?, d. Nov 16, 1935 Chicago) m. Jan 23, 1886                                        Annie and Edward J. are my husband's great-grandparents - we have no other information about Edward J.

    John O'Malley (b. abt. 1870 Westport, Mayo d. Nov 28, 1930 Chicago)

    Mary O'Malley (b. July  12, 1874 Mayo, d. Aug 13, 1933)

    Edward O'Malley (b. abt 1876 Ireland, d. July 25, 1945

Sarah O'Malley (b. abt 1880 - may have been born in US) m. Martin O'Malley

  • O'Malster:

Your best bet is to spend a lof of time on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie which has civil birth records starting in 1864. There were two Mary Malley civil birth records in 1874 in the Westport registration district and neither had a father Austin.

  • Hello, not sure if this conversation is still monitored, but I'm interested in this family connection as well. Anne and Edward are also my great grandparents. Thanks.

  • Hello,

I am also interested in this conversation on various O'Malleys from around Westport.  My line:

Bridget O'Malley born 1847 in Askilaun/ Askilane, Mayo. (from their tombstones). She was in Sacramento, CA on the 1870 Census married.

    married Patrick Hallanan  b.1838 Askilaun/Askilane,Mayo.

    Her parents may be:

Martin Joseph O'Malley b1819  and Bridget Gallagher b 1821 died 1894 Chicago, ILL. They are on the1860 Census for Chicago, ILL. Child Bridget born about 1845.

Both my sister and I are getting DNA matches to descendants of AUSTIN O'MALLEY of Chicago, ILL. There are Austin O'malleys in PA as well.
