  • Thomas:

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Civil marriage registration started in 1868 but it appears that Patrick and Mary did not register their marriage civilly (at least I can find a record). This is unfortunate since civil marriage records do show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom and if it Charles was shown, you would have confirmed the 1849 baptismal record. Was was the name of their oldest son?

  • Hi Thomas!

I was hoping the oldest son of Patrick and Mary was named Charles. Many families followed the custom of naming the oldest son after the paternal grandfather. All the best!
