My ancestor was tried in the court at Nenagh. I anyone able to give me a heads up on where I would find those records?

His name was Roderock "Rody" Kennedy and he was tried in 1843 with John caswy and John Maher. All three were transported.

Information is in the file, which is a newspaper article.

  • Dear Teresa:

Thank you for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board.

There is a reference to this case in the Ireland-Australia Transportation Database on the National Archives of Ireland website.  The link is below:

    http://findingaids.nationalarchives.ie/index.php?simpleSearchSbm=true&category=18&subcategory=147&searchDescTxt=Rody&simpleSearchSbm=Search#searchfocus

In addition, you should be able to find something in the Irish News Archives which is a subscription site and is available by monthly rates.  I have done a quick check for you and can tell you and there are 7 articles coming up.

It appears that Rody Kennedy was from Curraghaneddy, which is a townland in the Civil Parish of Kilnaneave.  The article references are in the following newspapers:

Nenagh Guardian and the Irish Examiner in July- August 1843.

The Assizes were the higher courts and those records may be in the National Archives of Ireland.  However, you would need to contact them about this, as not all assize records were kept in Ireland, and it is possible that the National Archives in the U.K. (Known as Kew) may hold these documents.

There are several listings for Rody Kennedy in Find My Past (another subscription site) which you may find useful.  I have screenshotted one for you as it gives a physical description of Rody Kennedy and his year of birth (1825).

The best of luck with your research.  If you need further assistance, please ask.

    Kind regards,

    Jane.
